Providence Health & Services Senior Clinical Data Engineer PSJH in Alaska


Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a Senior Clinical Data Engineer PSJH to work remotely within our footprint states: AK, CA, MT, NV, OR, TX and/or WA.

We are seeking a Senior Clinical Data Engineer PSJH who will work independently with all levels of Core Leaders (System, Region, Service Area and Ministry) utilizing his/her advanced subject matter expertise and coding skills to lead teams, design advance data sources, develop quality assurance processes, test multiple hypotheses, design challenging visualizations, use advanced contemporary data science techniques, provide ongoing training and facilitate multiple projects.

Areas of focus include a broad spectrum of clinical and financial domains.

This position ensures that all work produced by the Clinical Analytics team is conducted with thoughtful analytical discipline and supports other members of the team in the development of clinical data models, datamarts, and ETL.

The audience for this position's work is the entire Providence St. Joseph Health system, from members of the Board of Directors to front line caregivers.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Clinical Data Expertise: Understands multiple clinical areas, applying knowledge of definitions, and identifying best sources of data.

  • Data Acquisition:Utilizes advanced SQL and other languages for complex data acquisition projects.

  • Data Architecture: Designs conceptual, logical and physical data models and creates functional data architecture

  • Data Validation/Accuracy: Develops quality assurance processes; performs data validation; critically evaluates the output of reports with a high degree of accuracy.

  • Reporting/Analysis: Works with clients to develop and iteratively test multiple hypotheses around complex questions; provide strong written summaries of findings; creates presentations that succinctly address and anticipates the questions of the audience.

  • Display/Visualization: Performs visualization design; completes visualization projects independently; utilizes good sensibility in visual storytelling.

  • Mentorship/Training: Provides ongoing analytic and general training to caregivers outside Clinical Analytics and provides regular training and mentorship for Clinical Analytics colleagues.

  • Statistics/Data Science: Uses advanced contemporary data science techniques and/or biostatistics to complete routine and complex projects with the help of a mentor.

  • Program/Project Facilitation: Facilitates multiple projects with proven results.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management, Computer Science, Mathematics, Business Administration, Healthcare or a related clinical or analytic discipline or equivalent education/experience.

  • 5 years equivalent of a minimum of years of relevant data analysis; a biomedical setting is preferred. Experience with database query and analysis languages (e.g. SQL, R, SAS, Python) and data visualization tools (e.g. Tableau, D3).

Preffered qualifications for this position include:

  • Master's Degree in Health Information Management, Computer Science, Mathematics, Business Administration, Healthcare or a related clinical or analytic discipline.

  • Certification in an IT discipline, application, or tool within 1 year.
