Providence Nurse Supervisor - Transitional Care in Anchorage, Alaska
Providence is calling a Nurse Supervisor Long Term Care (LTC) (Transitional Care Nursing, Variable, 0.0 FTE) to the Transitional Care Center at Providence Transitional Care in Anchorage, Alaska. In this position you will:
QUALITY IMPROVEMENT: Participate in the quality improvement projects within the department. Develop staff to achieve quality outcomes.
SERVICE EXCELLANCE: Collaborate with all appropriate departments to promote optimal resident centered care and customer service. Models and mentors the Customer Service Standards. Support and promote Service Excellence and Eden Alternative. Support and foster an environment to promote employee and resident survey participation. Participate in action planning to improve resident and employee satisfaction.
LEADERSHIP: Act as resource for staff, providing guidance and support for those making resident care decisions. Oversee staff to ensure that the best possible care is delivered on a consistent basis. Give clear directions, explains the reasons for decisions, and solicit the input of staff to enhance group capabilities. Can be depended upon to complete an assigned project. Manages staff issues and makes appropriate referrals.
PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS: Provide clinical care that role models the department practice. Establish clear clinical practice expectations for resident care using department philosophy. Provide direction to staff during assigned shift in accordance with facility/departmental practices and in a manner, which achieves excellence in resident care. Carries out facility policies. Model time management, conscientiousness, dedication, self-discipline, accountability and responsibility.
HUMAN RESOURCES. Use independent judgment, effectively recommending and/or taking action related to transfers, promotions, evaluating performance, overstaff, layoffs, disciplinary action and employee complaints and concerns. Conduct and document employee performance on an annual basis and as needed. Uses appropriate interpersonal skills to guide others to accomplish objectives, facilitates teamwork, participation and cooperation. Delegate work so subordinates have the necessary direction, authority and skills to complete assignments.
TEAM WORK AND COMMUNICATIONS: May assign work and direct staff on assigned shift. Role models collaboration and partnership with physicians, staff, residents, families and other departments. Communicate effectively with other departments in a professional manner ensuring resolution of issues and concerns related to resident and facility needs. Keep appropriate leadership team members informed of staff, resident and facility issues and concerns. Communicate effectively and establish therapeutic relationships with residents and their families as the opportunity presents itself. Maintain and/or enhances the self-esteem of others through listening and responding with empathy and clear transmission of information. Response to inquires accurately and in a timely manner.
INVESTIGATIONS: Assist in the investigation of resident, family and employee concerns on shift assigned, such as but not limited to Unusual Occurrence Reports, Employee Injury Reports, resident concern, abuse allegations. Identify root cause and recommend corrective action.
CLINICAL COMPETENCE: Possess clinical assessment skills and clinical judgment to function as a clinical resource to staff. Responds to emergency situations. Demonstrate knowledge of current clinical theory and practices. Demonstrate technical competence. Performs clinical procedures to teach, model, and/or facilitate care when appropriate.
RESIDENT CARE: Make rounds every two hours to observe the status of residents, staffing patterns and performance and environment conditions. Corrects problems in these areas as appropriate. Follow up on resident related issues.
SCHEDULING: Responsible for securing coverage for sick calls and other scheduling needs. Assist in the management of the On-the- Job recovery program work assignments.
WRITTEN COMMUNICATION: Write reports, memos, and evaluations in a complete, clear, concise, and timely manner. Makes appropriate use of the computer in written communication.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Strive to improve own level of competence through skill development, keeping abreast of nursing trends and new developments in health care affecting Long Term Care as well as supervision/management theory.
FACILITY RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for facility monitoring of plant, security of employees and residents on assigned shift. Acts in administrative capacity in absence of Administrator and Director of Clinical Services. Provides facility access to appropriate visitors and staff.
SAFETY: Maintain a working knowledge of fire, disaster and missing resident procedures. Act as a Lead in any emergency, fire, disaster or other similar event. Maintain awareness of accident prevention practices and provides a safe environment for the residents and staff.
Implement care/services that recognize age/diversity specific needs/issues of customers served. Demonstrate awareness of human and resident’s rights in all aspects of care, treating each resident and co-worker with respect and dignity. Respect the rights of residents and employees, provides privacy and maintains confidentiality.

Required qualifications for this position include:
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
Associate's Degree in Nursing
Current Alaska Registered Nurse license
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) card must be from American Heart Association (AHA) upon hire or the ability to attain certification within thirty (30) days of hire
One (1) year experience clinical staff nurse
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
American Nurses Association Certification in Gerontological Nursing
Experience as a Shift Supervisor, or Charge Nurse in Acute or Long-Term Care

The Transitional Care Unit has a total of 52 beds with a variety of health rehabilitation issues (ages 20 and up). This is an exciting, busy unit with constant change, many admits, discharges.
