Providence Registered Dietitian - Long Term Care in Anchorage, Alaska
Providence is calling a Registered Dietitian - Long Term Care (Dietary, Days, 0.6 FTE) to Providence Extended Care in Anchorage, Alaska. In this position you will:
Oversee the medical nutritional needs of residents. Identify and assess each resident’s nutritional status and risk factors, evaluates/analyzes the assessment information, develop and consistently implement pertinent approaches, and monitors the effectives of interventions, and revise them as necessary. Provide in-depth assessments and monitoring of residents receiving nutritional support. Track weights and re-evaluates care plans as needed. Make recommendations and referrals to physicians and the care team. Provide evidence-based medical nutrition therapy in accordance with professional standards. Ensure that the planned menus and substitutions, diet orders, and actual meal service are consistent with the diet manual and each other, are appropriate to meet the needs of the individual resident, meets budgetary guidelines of the facility, and meet federal and state guidelines for dining service in a long term care facility.
Perform accurate and timely documentation. Complete assessments accurately and within the required period. Write progress notes in a format that demonstrates critical thinking. Document residents’ nutritional status in a timely manner. Perform on-going monitoring/audits of residents’ food and fluid intakes, laboratory values, weights and wound status and documents results. Audits all aspects of dining services including, food preparation, storage practices, and kitchen procedures and documents results of audits.
Provide consultation and education. Consult with all members of the interdisciplinary team. receives and provides information about the resident’s nutritional status, makes recommendations, and provides follow through on recommendations. Prepare educational material and provides education to staff, residents, families, and physicians through individualized instruction, informal communication, and formal in-services on nutrition, safety/sanitation and dining services policies and procedures on an as needed basis. Consult with the kitchen management team and administration on a regularly scheduled basis to assure that federal and state guidelines for dining service in a long term care facility are followed.
Participate in quality improvement. In conjunction with administration and management, reviews/develops/revises nutrition and dining service related policies and procedures. Review and update as needed the diet manual, assessment forms, and nutrition practices to meet current standards of medical nutrition therapy. Evaluate menus to assure that the nutritional needs of the residents are met. Based on audits, identify areas for improvement and initiates improvement strategies. Attend quality improvement and monitoring committees on an as needed basis.
Maintain professional competencies. Maintain current knowledge of all laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to skilled nursing facilities nutritional services. Maintain current knowledge in the nutrition care of the older adult, the nutrition assessment process, the care of residents with specific disease processes and conditions such as diabetes, renal disease, and dysphagia, as well as the nutritional care of residents receiving enteral and parenteral nutrition.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Continuing education in accordance with policies determined by the American Dietetic Association for maintenance of registered status.
Has met the educational and experience requirements of the Commission on Dietetic Registration to be a Registered Dietitian.
Current certification as a Registered Dietitian with the American Dietetic Association.
Licensure in accordance with the laws of the State of Alaska.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Heart Association (AHA) upon hire or the ability to accomplish within thirty (30) days of date of hire required
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Advanced education in geriatric nutrition and/or nutrition support.
Current Serv-Safe certification
Certified Nutrition Support Clinician/Dietitian
Experienced in long-term care.
About Our Community
Providence Extended Care at the Cottages is located on a campus that includes eight cottages and a Commons Building. The Cottages are home to 96 residents. The Commons Building includes the facility reception area, Resident Bank, Gift Shop, Rehabilitation Therapies, Chapel, Supplies, Plant Services, Dietary, Support Services, Staff Development, Administration offices and Conference Rooms. The Cottages bear the names of Alaskan rivers and are arranged in alphabetical order along Compassion Circle.
Each cottage is a home that contains 12 private bedrooms/baths situated around a warm, inviting hearth and living area. An open kitchen allows residents and guests to enjoy the aromas and happenings of a kitchen, just like home. Each Cottage includes a Den along with a Spa and beauty/barber shop station. A patio off the dining area provides easy access to the outdoors and gardening opportunities. Large windows in the living area provide views for all to enjoy.
