Providence is calling a RN House Supervisor (Nursing Admin, Variable Shift, 0.9 FTE) at St Elias Specialty Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska. In this position you will:
Provide visionary leadership in the professional practice setting and the profession. Use leadership principles to anticipate and influence change. Determine resources and actions needed to accomplish objectives. Set priorities and manages time effectively. Identifies potential problems/opportunities and plans contingent action. Develop new and unique ideas to improve existing systems or operations, when new organizational approaches are needed. Collaborate with caregivers and core leaders in these efforts. Encourage innovative efforts in others. Seeks creative methods to resolve conflicts. Promote multi-disciplinary care of the patient.
Incorporate and model tones, tools and behaviors of High Reliability principles. Systematically enhance the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice, nursing services administration and the delivery of services. Leathe unit in developing, modifying and implementing patient care standards, policies, procedures and protocols. Establish clear clinical practice expectations based on professional standards for areas of responsibility. Is responsible for the annual development and implementation of unit-based QI plans, incorporating appropriate aspects of the PHSA quality strategic plan for this ministry.
Direct and administers assigned functions to ensure high quality, cost-effective patient services which meet or surpass licensing standards. Maintain and guide the implementation of organization policies and procedures in compliance with state, Federal and other regulatory guidelines. Assure adequate preparation for, and participate in, regulatory compliance surveys.
Responsible for education program planning, development and implementation. This includes, but is not limited to, developing, expanding and validating educational needs and competencies required; developing training programs and processes; teaching courses. Oversees the clinical education processes and assures that all clinical staff are properly trained and oriented to perform their jobs in the work environment. Acts as a positive change agent to assist clinicians with the dynamic nature of using new equipment or systems. Interacts with and contributes to the professional development of peers and colleagues.
Use independent judgment, effectively recommending and/or taking action related to transfers, promotions, evaluating performance, overstaff, layoffs, disciplinary action and employee complaints and concerns. Conduct and document employee performance on an annual basis and as needed. Use appropriate interpersonal skills to guide others to accomplish objectives, facilitates teamwork, participation and cooperation. Delegate work so subordinates have the necessary direction, authority and skills to complete assignments.
Able to provide clinical care at the expert level and is a role model for staff in the clinical setting. Respond to emergency situations. Demonstrate knowledge of current clinical theory and practices. Demonstrate technical competence. Perform clinical procedures to teach, model, and/or facilitate care when appropriate.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska required
BLS and ACLS required
3 years Recent RN experience

Previous charge or supervisory experience
About St. Elias Specialty Hospital
St. Elias Specialty Hospital is owned by Providence Health System. The hospital has 59 beds, almost all private rooms. The facility features state of the art equipment to provide extended inpatient acute care for patients.
At St. Elias Specialty Hospital, we provide customized, physician-driven services for patients requiring longer stays in an acute care environment due to multiple or complex medical conditions. We are not a permanent placement for patients; rather we are an answer for many patients who are acutely ill and need to take the first steps towards rehabilitation or home.
