Under the direction of the Laboratory Medical Director and the Laboratory Manager, the Preanalytical Supervisor manages the pre-analytic processes in the clinical laboratory. They also serve as a resource for post-analytic results of blood and body fluids to assist our customers and providers in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.

The Preanalytical Supervisor aids in the establishment of laboratory goals and objectives, supervises all aspects of the laboratory in regard to patient relations, human resource management, and quality assurance. Performs laboratory procedures as instructed by attending physician(s), and ensures that department maintenance, quality control, and inventory requirement are met. Monitors and adjusts work and testing schedule to meet that requirement.

In this position you will:

  • Supervise day to day operations of the department.

  • Actively support the regulatory requirements of Joint Commission standards for the laboratory and the hospital.

  • Participate in hospital and department specific practices to maintain a clean, safe and comfortable environment for patients and staff.

  • Maintain the security and confidentiality of data and information used in performance of his/her daily duties conforming to hospital policy, laws and regulations as appropriate.

  • Follow established policies and procedures to identify and reduce the risks of acquiring or transmitting infection.

  • Maintain positive working relationships and foster a cooperative work environment.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare related field

  • Coursework/Training in Phlebotomy

  • Five (5) years Clinical Laboratory experience

  • Washington State Medical Assistant - Phlebotomy License

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Successful completion of a accredited Medical Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technician Program OR ten (10) years of progressive clinical laboratory experience including supervisory duties

  • Two (2) years leadership experience

  • American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) – Medical Technologist (MLS) or equivalent, Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), or Phlebotomy (PBT)
