Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a Director of Accountable Care and Population Health to Mill Creek Medical Center in Everett Washington

The Director, Accountable Care and Population Health, NWSA is knowledgeable about the performance of an advanced integrated clinical delivery strategy inclusive of plan design, pricing strategy, bid/selection market intelligence, and project management to meet community needs in the changing environment of healthcare. This role is responsible for facilitating operational alignment with the broad organizational strategic goals and objectives outlined for accountable care and population health planning for the Region.

In addition to the responsibilities in Northwest Washington, a portion of this position’s time will be to coordinate the work of PH&S in its transition to population health models. This leader will represent NWSA in system-wide planning, product development and implementation work. The leader will conduct strategic analysis on a variety of topics related to population health business and clinical models and work with regional leaders to integrate the insight into their decisions. The position is also accountable for performance monitoring, oversight of risk based sharing models, development of strategies with provider partners to meet the obligations and maximize the performance of contracts as well as building the number of accountable lives. This leader will be called upon to foster learning across the ministries through collaborative teams and will be viewed as a thought leader who can be called upon to quickly advance the knowledge of leaders in the region.

The Director, Accountable Care and Population Health, NWSA will also lead community efforts with groups such as the ACH to drive utilization management, population health management strategy implementation, and regionally represent the NWSA with stake holders.

In this position you will:

  • Apply an understanding of provider payment structures, strategic planning, market theory, financial accounting issues, and other mechanisms that highly impact the cost and revenue structures within the organization.

  • Provide strategic leadership and execution in alignment with the clinical integration objectives of organization.

  • Provide critical information to the key stakeholders and leaders within NWSA and in support of PH&S strategies in population health.

  • Lead the NWSA development of care management and transformation tools and modeling, including reporting and benchmark analytics, while anticipating and meeting the needs of internal and external customers.

  • Facilitate and lead new innovation strategy design development to support the communities/ businesses served.

  • Incorporate knowledge of legislation (both federal and state,) laws and regulations and in product development and administration.

  • Share professional knowledge and serves as an accountable care expert to NWSA ministries.

  • Develop methodologies and approaches to new tasks and projects.

  • Ensure the core values and mission of Providence Health & Services and Swedish are forefront of all operational activities.

  • Maintain confidentiality of records or medical center information at all times.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelors’ Degree in business, science, economics, nursing or an equivalent related field. Master’s in Business Administration or related field preferred.

  • Six to eight years of midlevel to senior leadership experience in the healthcare industry and or managed care provider world. The Director should have personal values compatible with those of the Providence Health & Services and be comfortable in leading a secular and non-secular environment due to collaborations necessary with affiliated partner organizations. Must have a strong ability to communicate and maintain positive professional demeanor.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the trends and changes taking place in health care and their implications including healthcare reform, state Medicaid programs, Medicare products and new reimbursement methodologies for commercial insurance products.

  • Knowledge and experience in collecting, analyzing, interpreting and summarizing qualitative/quantitative healthcare data analytics.

  • Working knowledge of managed care including capitation and contracting issues.

  • Highly advanced analytical & problem solving skills and developed business acumen (finance, accounting, economics, and risk management.)

  • Demonstrated success with complex project management and group facilitation

  • In-depth knowledge and expertise of external market factors including national trends and research, Medicare Advantage, national benchmarks and regional competition.
