Providence Health & Services RN Examiner SAC - Intervention Center in Everett, Washington


Providence is calling a Registered Nurse (RN) Examiner (0.0 FTE, Nights) to work in the Intervention Center at Providence Regional Medical Center Everett in Everett, WA

The Registered Nurse (RN) Examiner will provide physical, forensic, and emotional evaluation of sexual assault and physical assault patients of all ages without physician presence. Participates as a supportive team member to assist sexual assault and physical assault victims and is available as needed for courtroom testimony.

In this position you will:

  • Demonstrate age specific patient care considerations for the population served:

  • Demonstrate application of knowledge, skills, and behaviors in the physical, motor/sensory, cognitive, psychosocial, patient and family education areas based on PRMCE age specific care competency assessment tool

  • Gather and documents age appropriate medical forensic history:

  • Conduct interview utilizing age appropriate methods according to protocols, documents utilizing appropriate report form, dictates final report within 24 hours of examination, and reviews documentation in a timely manner with ARNP

  • Perform a medical forensic evaluation:

  • Complete an age appropriate nursing assessment and communicates results to emergency department physician

  • Identify potential forensic evidence, collects, packages, and stores evidence according to protocol

  • Document chain of custody

  • Communicate with appropriate law enforcement agency

  • Identify the need for forensic toxicology assay

  • Document and secures samples appropriately

  • Photograph injuries

  • Communicate effectively with staff, volunteers, medical staff, patients and families:

  • Demonstrate good communication and appropriate behaviors in accordance with PICAA philosophy.

  • Resolve conflicts appropriately

  • Communicate directly with advocate during examination, and consults with ARNP as necessary and with any pediatric patients

  • Mandatory reporter:

  • Complete a mandatory report to Child Protection Services, Adult Protection Services, and/or law enforcement within 48 hours and documents according to protocol

  • Provide appropriate medical intervention per standing order:

  • Assess and treats prophylactically for sexually transmitted diseases according to protocol

  • Assess, treats, and obtains consent for emergency contraception according to protocol

  • Assess and treats according to standing orders

  • Order laboratory testing according to standing orders; complete standing order form

  • Provide testimony:

  • Respond to subpoena requests in a timely manner, participates in pre-trial preparatory and judicial interviews and/or depositions, and documents interactions appropriately

  • Meet on call shift requirements:

  • Fills four on-call shifts monthly as primary nurse examiner

  • Communicate any shift changes to staff in a timely manner


Required qualifications for this position includes:

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing degree/diploma upon hire

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or higher within 5 years of hire -OR-

  • Any previously agreed upon effective date for obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in nursing between individual and facility will remain in effect

  • Exceptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis at each facility by the most senior administrative nursing leader in consultation with the Human Resources leader

  • RNs employed prior to 2/1/13 are encouraged to obtain a Bachelor’s degree or higher degree in Nursing, but obtaining the degree will not be a condition of employment

  • RN license in State of Washington

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification

  • Valid WA state driver's license

  • One (1) year of Prior direct patient care as a nurse

Preferred qualifications for this position includes:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing upon hire

  • Coursework/Training: Pediatric SANE Training

  • Coursework/Training: Adult/Adolescent SANE Training

  • Two (2) years of direct patient care as a nurse.
