The Philanthropy Officer will serve as a strategist for individual and major gift development prospects with a focus on identified fundraising priorities, service lines, or research areas. This position plays a key role in meeting the fundraising goals of the Memorial Foundation through physician engagement, volunteer and donor management. The Senior Officer will successfully grow and manage a major gift portfolio of approximately 100 to 150 prospects to meet assigned goals and objectives for the Foundation. He/she will be expected to make 144 face-to-face visits per year and deliver a minimum of 226 proposals annually. Will work with clinical leadership and colleagues to identify and qualify prospective donors, make qualification calls and discovery visits to build a pipeline of prospects capable of making gifts of $25,000 and above. This position will develop and implement gift strategies and solicitations, ensure accurate gift processing, create and manage individual stewardship plans and develop appropriate engagement opportunities. As part of engagement efforts, the Officer will be responsible for initiating appropriate contact and developing meaningful events for donors and prospective donors to showcase unique opportunities for support. The Officer will be responsible for tracking progress and results utilizing prospect management guidelines and the Raiser's Edge fundraising database.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Personally grow and manage a portfolio of approximately 100 – 150 major and principal gift prospects with the intent to cultivate and solicit gifts of $25,000 and above.

  • Proactively and strategically identify and qualify prospects with the capacity to make a major or principal gift by conducting a minimum of 12 face-to-face visits per month.

  • Make qualification calls and discovery visits to build a pipeline of prospects capable of making gifts of $25,000 and above.

  • Present a minimum of 26 major gift proposals with a minimum of 16 proposals funded each fiscal year.

  • Develop and implement gift strategies and solicitations, ensure accurate gift processing, create and manage individual stewardship plans and develop appropriate engagement opportunities.

  • Responsible for tracking progress and results utilizing prospect management guidelines and the Raiser’s Edge fundraising database.

  • Establish cooperative working relationships with hospital leadership, board members, physicians and clinical staff and the community to promote maximum engagement and giving in support of St. Jude Medical Center.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university or college

  • Upon hire: Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) (preferred)

  • 5 years of major gift experience in a large organization, especially in higher education and/or a medical center or medical research environment, with a track record of successful major gift solicitation

  • Experience in comprehensive fundraising campaigns (preferred)

  • Experience using fundraising software, including Raiser's Edge, Microsoft Office Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, as well as office equipment, e.g., laptop, scanner, etc.

  • Proven skills in developing sophisticated strategies in planning, implementing and administering complex major-gift solicitation

  • Problem solving skills and the ability to anticipate challenges and obstacles, along with the creativity and tenacity to implement solutions effectively

  • Ability to exercise initiative, work proactively, and accept responsibility

  • Strong interpersonal skills, a collaborative working style and an enthusiasm for building bridges between and among key stakeholders

  • Effective written communication skills necessary to write and edit letters, memos, reports, discussion documents, proposals and other solicitation materials

  • Strong verbal communication skills to articulate the mission of SJMC and its fundraising priorities persuasively

  • Familiarity with current healthcare topics (preferred).
