Providence Senior Paralegal *Hybrid* in Hobbs, New Mexico

Senior Paralegal - Hybrid. Primarily remote but may be asked to work onsite as needed

This position will provide professional legal support to the Department of Legal Affairs ("DLA") attorneys generally and/or in a specific practice area or across practice areas. This position will be responsible for the coordination, provision, and completion of various legal support tasks as outlined below or requested by a supervising attorney in support of Providence St. Joseph Health's various operations within its operating footprint.

This position will manage legal matters, in partnership with attorneys, and exercise independent judgment in determining and recommending courses of action based on matter type, carrying out those actions, and bringing matters to closure. This position may also support attorneys/other DLA staff throughout DLA's offices and will interact frequently with internal and external clients, outside counsel, third party vendors and business associates.

This position is responsible for writing position statements. Please note that a writing sample will be required of all applicants.

  • Draft responses to discrimination complaints (Title VII, ADA, ADEA and state laws), unfair labor practice complaints and demand letters of varying complexity, including the formation of legal analysis and selection of supporting exhibits for attorney review. Proofs attorney work-product for clarity, grammar, narrative flow. Update responses to reflect final attorney edits, finalize and prepare and redact exhibits as needed, and file responses with requesting agency or party.

  • Provide support for labor arbitrations including, managing exhibits, drafting witness and general outlines, working to identify and locate relevant information or witnesses, and assisting in drafting the post hearing brief.

  • Assist with management of investigations into employee claims, demands, charges or complaints before administrative agencies (EEOC, State EEOC equivalents, NLRB, etc) or via demand letters from private attorneys. Facilitates clarification of investigatory direction or needs at the direction of lead attorney.

  • Coordinates the Legal Hold life cycle from implementation to release and facilitates e-Discovery in partnership with Information Services.

  • Draft mediation briefs and prepare exhibits.

  • Coordinates responses to opposing parties.

  • Docket, monitor and ensure all case deadlines are met. Facilitate or directly negotiate extension as needed.

  • Enter timely status updates in department’s matter management system (Legal Tracker), ensure the matter record is complete and accurate, and ensure all documents are filed to the appropriate matter using the department’s document management system (iManage).

  • In partnership with lead attorney, works directly with outside counsel on matter management.

  • Reviews personnel and pay files for production to ensure proper redactions have been implemented per department protocol.

  • Review pleadings, supporting declarations and other documents as needed.

  • Drafts various employment related settlement agreements.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree in ABA-approved Paralegal Studies Program or Certificate from a paralegal program at, or a degree from, an accredited secondary institution which requires at least 24 semester units in law-related courses

  • 5 years Paralegal experience in a relevant practice area with an in-house legal team, or equivalent experience in a law practice setting

  • 5 years Demonstrated experience performing substantive legal work for multiple attorneys in a relevant practice area

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Paralegal Studies / Law / Legal Studies

  • Notary Public upon hire

  • 2 years exposure to the health care industry working with large integrated health systems
