Position is located in Irvine, Portland, or Seattle.

Providence spans 52 acute care hospitals, over $26 billion in revenue, 5 million unique patients, 120,000 care givers and $1.5 billion in community benefit. The Chief Executive of Clinical Institutes partners with the Regional Chief Executives and the market Presidents to align strategy, growth, priorities, and centers of excellence creating alignment and synergy between the system institute and local care delivery.
As Providence builds high performing integrated networks, the role of the system institute team is in support of these networks through system-wide governance, brand synergy, shared metrics, standardized contracting, aligned recruiting and established centers of excellence. The criteria for system-wide Clinical Institutes includes providing cutting-edge care defined by world-class outcomes through established clinical standards, alongside innovative research, education, and philanthropy, while delivering consistent sustainable and meaningful growth. As of 2021, Providence operates six Clinical Institutes: The Providence Heart Institute, the Providence Neuroscience Institute, the Providence Cancer Institute, the Providence Digestive Health Institute, the Providence Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Institute, and the Providence Women’s & Children’s Institute.
The Chief Executive of Clinical Institutes has cross continuum leadership of specialty clinical care delivery and is a key member of the clinical Senior Leadership team ensuring clinical institute considerations inform all strategic decisions. Responsibilities include substantial coordination of care across high performing networks with oversight for quality, patient safety, program growth, clinical leadership development, and development of services in concert with the hospital, medical group, population health and ambulatory operations leaders. This is a strategic and operational role where the individual influences for impact through operationalizing programs and innovation with a dedicated system team in complete partnership and alignment with local sites of care.
Providence seeks an expert specialist leader with firsthand experience in an affiliated or non-employed model as well as having operated in an employed model. Deep understanding of contracts, bundles and incentives that motivate holistic care of the patient and achieve the best outcomes is necessary for success in scaling Providence world class care. This leader must be highly proficient at synthesizing across regions, turning data into insight then action through effective communication and collaboration, as well as empowerment of people and programs. As Providence increases lives managed at risk and direct to employer, this clinical transformation leader is at the helm of weaving together fee for service and value-based care in building world class destination medicine.
The successful candidate will have a substantive track record of governance and leadership in a complex, integrated, high-performing network with scale that uses technology, standards and data to impact decision making. This leader will be a physician executive at the forefront of clinical care delivery design and innovation. He or she will have intimate knowledge of specialty practice, quality and patient safety, progressive care delivery models with a strong business and financial acumen. The Chief Executive of Clinical Institutes will have the ability to build trust with colleagues through professional achievement and fairness. A Doctor of Medicine degree is required and completion of a postgraduate medical education in an ACGME approved residency program in any medical specialty with appropriate board certification. An advanced degree in healthcare or business-related field is desired.

The Chief Executive of Clinical Institutes role is a key physician executive leadership role to define, measure the quality and excellence across our Providence Institutes and the imperatives of accountability in patient centered outcomes.
Reporting directly to the President, Clinical Care at Providence this individual serves as a senior physician leader in the organization, with the role spanning medical and clinical staff alignment locally and regionally, provider engagement, strategy, and operations-related needs across the care continuum. This physician leader has system oversight of the current six Providence Institutes and identification, development, and growth for future institute programs. The role works closely with physician enterprise, ambulatory care network and population health initiatives. The Chief Executive of Clinical Institutes serves as a thought leader at the forefront of clinical innovation and promotes clinical care quality improvements and reducing total cost of care. The individual will be a key leader supporting physician and clinical development, retention and recruiting across the system and initiatives to drive performance focused on value and reducing care variation all while serving our mission. This individual will possess the business acumen to understand the shift from volume to value and can align physician leaders around strategic initiatives. This physician executive will be a facilitator to identify and advance best practice across the system as well as develop future leaders in the organization.
The Chief Executive of Clinical Institutes manages a small system team (currently 30 full time employees) aligned by institutes, coordinating system wide programs, and managing performance. Accountabilities include system wide governance, brand building, joint system-region-local strategic plans and aligned metrics and measurements. The position requires travel to facilitate and connect leaders across the system to build, develop and manage high performing networks. The leader will be leveraged and play an important role in business development and partnerships from acquisition to joint ventures, aligned to our mission, strategy, and sustainable growth efforts.
The Chief Executive of Clinical Institutes will take a collaborative and dynamic approach to achieving organizational goals and participate in governing councils for Providence. Membership in the Clinical Medical Group Council, Operations Council, Consumer Council, Population Health, Workforce Council or Growth Council or their sub-committees may be required. This physician leader will facilitate positive working relationships and achieve desired outcomes through excellent listening and synthesizing as well as respectful and decisive decision making. The successful candidate will lead by example, empowerment, authenticity, and ingenuity to mold the culture and delivery of care across the system, region and within each local market.
MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
Appropriate board certification.
An advanced degree in healthcare administration, business administration or a related field is desirable.
