We are seeking a Patient Placement Center Specialist who will support care for Providence St Joseph Health (PSJH) patients by coordinating the patient intake process. He/she will be involved in taking and triaging calls, and facilitating inbound and outbound transfers for/from PSJH facilities. The employee will be responsible for assisting team to problem solve complex critical cases and situations.
In this position you will:
Be responsible for performing insurance verification and patient registration. Must have a working knowledge of EMTALA
Assist PPC Nurse in facilitating inbound and outbound Transfers and Direct Admissions
Facilitate transportation coordination for transfers
Communicate with physicians, physician offices, and outlying facilities regarding bed placement, providing updates where needed
Use problem-solving skills to determine the best course of action which will be satisfactory to the patient, the physician, and the hospital
Work collaboratively with other team members as required to develop and implement the plan of action.
Maintain timely and accurate documentation in EPIC, relating to all communication for transfer and direct admission cases
Check Patients status and level of care using InterQual Criteria
Assist with training and education of new employees
Assess new employee/trainee progress and provides feedback to managers
Other duties as assigned
Required qualifications for this position include:
Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
1-3 years of healthcare related experience (hospital registration, bed board or insurance verification)
Customer Service experience
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Able to take the initiative to provide quality service to patients, advocate on their behalf, and take ownership of the process and outcome. We are looking for team players that can be objective, engaged and part of the process forward.
Able to work collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team
Able to take responsibility to initiate, assess and take action
Mental Requirements: Requires ability to give attention to detail. Analysis of information, reasoning, problem solving and decision making skills. Ability to understand instructions, data and concepts.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Bachelor's Degree in healthcare related field
Working knowledge of Epic/EMR and Bed management system
Understanding of medical terminology
Previous Call Center experience
