Providence Health & Services Privacy BAA Specialist in Irvine, California


Providence is calling a Privacy and HIPAA Business Associate Agreement (BAA) Specialist to Providence Health & Services in Renton, WA.

We are seeking a Privacy and HIPAA Business Associate Agreement (BAA) Specialist to provide support to PSJH as a subject matter expert on HIPAA, privacy laws and regulatory requirements, including analysis and interpretation of those laws and regulations specifically as they apply to the system's business associate agreements (BAA), in coordination with Information Security, the Department of Legal Affairs and Risk Management departments when appropriate.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Responsible for maintaining current knowledge of HIPAA/HITECH/BAA Privacy Rule Standards and other privacy laws, regulations, requirements and community best practices.

  • Develops and maintains process for reviewing PSJH BAAs on regular basis to ensure compliance with HIPAA and privacy laws, regulations, and requirements.

  • Work closely with the Regional RIS staff, Department of Legal Affairs, Risk Management, Information Security and other identified departments to coordinate PSJH review of BAAs and any responses to privacy breaches and incidents when appropriate.

  • Develops and disseminates education materials as requested to meet the needs of regional and service area/facility privacy representatives. Specifically, this position shall develop information and materials to support supply chain personnel in implementing effective and appropriate BAAs.

  • Identifies high-risk situations in the area of privacy compliance and BAAs, apprising appropriate PSJH Shared Services departments and other identified stakeholders of the risk, and the leads the initiation of proactive defense measures and/or incident response protocols as needed.

  • Assists in the development of policy, directives, and guidelines for privacy safeguards per the HIPAA Privacy Rule and other applicable privacy laws and regulations.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree – in Healthcare, Education, communications, or related fields of study.

  • 5 years’ experience with compliance and privacy laws and regulations with demonstrated analytical ability.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Coursework/Training – Law Degree or Coursework.

  • 3 years’ experience in a a healthcare setting familiarity with HIPAA and BAAs.
