Fitness Instructor at Providence California Regional Services
Creating Opportunities for Physical Activity (COPA) is a physical activity and nutrition initiative in seven K-5 elementary schools. COPA works to build a culture of daily physical activity and healthy eating on school campuses and in the surrounding community using a peer coach model. The peer coach model differs from direct service in that all activities are conducted with the focus on training others how to perform the functions to ensure long term sustainability.
PE Instructors will be responsible for co-conducting a physical activity and health based after school program with 25 students, four days per week. In addition PE Instructors will demonstrate and teach classroom teachers to conduct Instant Recess (10 minute burst of physical activity) and provide physical activity opportunities for students during the school day. PE Instructors will also be responsible for assisting with data collection and other activities that promote a culture of daily physical activity and healthy eating on the school campus.
The ideal candidate is passionate about physical activity and nutrition and has experience working with K-5 students in a school/after school setting. This individual will also be resourceful, well organized, and creative in promoting and enhancing program needs and services.
This position is 24 hours/week, 10 months/year, and includes health and vacation benefits. Typical schedule is 8:00p-2:00p Monday-Friday plus four additional flex hours at some point in the week. Having flexibility in your schedule is very important.
Experience working in elementary school setting and after school setting.
Experience participating in nutrition and physical activity campaigns, education, and programming.
