Providence Senior Paralegal in Lubbock, Texas

This position will provide professional legal support to the Department of Legal Affairs (“DLA”) attorneys generally and/or in a specific practice area or across practice areas. This position will be responsible for the coordination, provision, and completion of various legal support tasks as outlined below or requested by a supervising attorney in support of Providence St. Joseph Health’s various operations within its operating footprint. This position will focus on Healthcare Operations with an emphasis on contract review, drafting and facilitating communication between DLA attorneys and clients to respond to contract questions.

The Senior Paralegal will work very closely with Lead and or associate attorneys within its Healthcare Operations practice area, and may work with other practice areas within DLA. This position will manage legal matters, in partnership with attorneys, and exercise independent judgment in determining and recommending courses of action based on matter type, carrying out those actions, and bringing matters to closure. This position may also support attorneys/other DLA staff throughout DLA’s offices and will interact frequently with internal and external clients, third party vendors and business associates. This position can sit from any Providence state approved location in the US.

Healthcare Operations:

  • Draft, review and provide guidance on a wide variety of physician agreements, including management of the processing of such arrangements.

  • Draft, review and provide guidance on clinical education/affiliation agreements

  • Draft or review Non-Disclosure Agreements, letters of intent, and other agreements.

  • Assist with intellectual property matters including copyright, trademark and patent filings.

  • Prepare Business Associate Agreements as requested.

  • Assist clients with vendor contracting and pre-litigation disputes.

  • Manage conflict waiver requests and ensures they comply with established requirements for reviewing and considering such requests.

  • Manage and monitor matters relating to Medical Staff, including facilitating the provision of legal advice to client regarding issues such as Peer Review, credentialing, Board Investigations, miscellaneous complaints.

  • Provide support for governmental inquiries, civil investigative demands, other regulatory investigations, and various components of litigation.

  • Maintain knowledge of various federal and state healthcare laws including Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, False Claims Act, Medicare and Medicaid billing rules, HIPAA-HITECH, and EMTALA

  • Provide support for regulatory filings including certificates of need

Required qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree -OR- equivalent educ/experience

  • Paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved paralegal program, or a certificate from a paralegal program at, or a degree from, an accredited secondary institution which requires at least 24 semester units in law-related courses

  • 5 years Paralegal experience with a focus on corporate governance, entity management, and/or transaction support, or equivalent experience in a law practice setting

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree - Paralegal Studies / Law / Legal Studies

  • 2 years General understanding/exposure to the health care industry working with large integrated health systems

  • Notary Public
