Providence is calling a Food Nutrition Lead to its Dietary Department at Providence Medford Medical Center in Medford, OR. This is a full-time position. The primary work schedule is Saturday thru Wednesday from 7:30a - 4p. However, your work days and work hours may fluctuate periodically to meet operational demand. We are seeking a Food Nutrition, Lead that will ensure that Food Service staff are providing a high level of customer service for patients, family members, volunteers, physicians and staff. This position primarily works on the weekend as Lead for all Food/Nutrition staff. The Service Excellence Standards of Behavior guidelines must be adhered to at all times. Must have comprehensive knowledge of, and be compliant with, specified regulatory requirements, and food safety and sanitation regulations for food service in a health care environment. Assists in monitoring the cleanliness and sanitation of area(s) of responsibility. Adheres to County/State Health department, hospital, and department standards, policies and procedures at all times. This Food/Services-Lead position trains, coaches and communicates professionally and objectively in order to motivate and lead the team, and must perform all duties in a manner which promotes and encourages a productive team environment.
In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
Oversee and lead the weekend operations of Dietary and Cafe services and staff
Monitor and troubleshoot patient meal service, inventory/product, production and equipment issues, and staffing issues
Monitor and oversee to ensure all food in the area of responsibility are organized, properly stocked, labeled, dated and stored in the appropriate and designated areas
Ensure food is stored at proper temperatures and is rotated as per department standards and FIFO principles
Be responsible to ensure areas of responsibility are cleaned, sanitized, and restocked
Monitor the serving stations and the refrigeration equipment on line and in the kitchen to ensure these areas are sanitized and in good working order that includes all appropriate storage areas
Work with management and peers to improve service and quality of food items
Work with management to encourage a positive work environment and improve employee engagement while acting as a positive role model at all times
Assist management by providing input and information into performance issues for employees under their daily direction
Assist management by providing input and information regarding annual employee evaluations
Adhere to county/state policy on and proper food handling
Required qualifications for this position includes:
Oregon Department of Human Services Food Handlers Card prior to first day of work
Two (2) years of working in a high volume, full service restaurant or institutional food service facility
Experience working successfully in a team environment to accomplish common goals
Able to communicate and understand instructions, follow recipes and department standards
Strong interpersonal communication skills in order to communicate with fellow team members and management
Good writing and reading skills
Able to multi task and work with several teams throughout their shift
Able to prioritize and organize smaller work assignments while still contributing to the major goal or assignment of the day
Able to work independently at all times with minimal direction from supervisor or manager
Working knowledge of industry health codes and regulations
Able to take direction and change priorities quickly because of changing staff levels, production/equipment issues, supply shortages and volume fluctuations
Preferred qualifications for this position includes:
Additional years of diversified cooking experience, which includes any combination of the following positions: line/grill/broiler cook, production cook, catering, soup or saute cook
Experience working from scratch recipes as well as prepping and portioning items needed in the production process
Experience using food production software (i.e., Computrition), and ability to take diet orders, print necessary reports and update recipes in the data base
Some knowledge of various cooking techniques and processes and the ability to apply these methods in a kitchen with heavy equipment constraints due to volume and capacity issues
