Providence is calling a Liasion Welcome Baby (Per-Diem/Day Shift) to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, CA.

We are seeking a Liasion Welcome Baby who will coordinate with the Welcome Baby Outreach Specialist to identify prenatally enrolled clients and communicate regarding risk assessments for appropriate referrals. The Hospital Liaison will be hospital based and will engage families after delivery to inform them about the Welcome Baby Program, and enroll them as appropriate. The Hospital Liaison will refer families to community-based supports as appropriate.

In this position you will:

  • Provide an introduction to the Welcome Baby program and describes the opportunities and services. Non-Best Start families will be approached and screened at the hospital as part of the Universal Assessment.

  • Introduce or reinforces the following to the families:

  • Resource and information in the Kit for New Parents.

  • Reassurance and encouragement with lactation initiation.

  • Parent-infant interaction.

  • Universal Screening.

  • Referral for high-risk intervention, if needed.

  • Information on insurance enrollment for the newborn.

  • Information on in-home and provider-based follow-up for mother and infant.

  • Complete the Bridges for Newborns Screening Tool.

  • Consult and refers to other disciplines as appropriate.

  • Educate mothers on the importance of scheduling a post partum and newborn follow up visit with physicians.

  • Work with Welcome Baby RN to schedule first home visit.

  • Maintain knowledge about local community resources and refers families to appropriate agencies.

  • Organize and maintains accurate records.

  • Prepare required reports.

  • Attend monthly staff meetings to obtain feedback on program updates, needs, challenges, and outcomes.

  • Participate in local community meetings and develops relationships with providers and community organizations to enhance partnerships and collaboration.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Child Development, Social Work, Psychology, Human Development, or a related field -OR- Bachelor’s degree and direct experience working with underserved communities.

  • Lactation educator, lactation counselor, or International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) required within six months of hire.

  • Current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers.

  • Experience working with families from diverse age, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.

  • Ability to work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.

  • Ability to promote bonding and attachment between infant-mother.

  • Empathy, warmth, and the ability to establish trusting, supportive relationships with an ethnically diverse population.

  • Knowledgeable about local community resources and able to refer families to appropriate agencies.

  • Knowledge of normal fetal, infant, and toddler development; prenatal and child health requirements; and early childhood education best practices.

  • Skill in organizing and maintaining accurate records.

  • Skill in writing to articulate concepts and ideas in notes and reports.

  • Ability to conduct a strength-based family assessment across a broad spectrum of areas using a validated, standardized tool administered in the prescribed manner.

  • Familiarity with the effects of domestic violence and parental alcohol and/or drug abuse on family health, parenting, and general functioning.

  • Familiarity with the effects of perinatal depression on child development, parenting, and general functioning.

  • Willingness to work a flexible day shift schedule that includes some Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.

  • Bilingual Spanish/English required.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Child Development Associate (CDA)
