We are seeking a Surgery Tech I Float who will prepare surgery suite for surgical procedures. Function as a "sterile" member of the surgical team during procedures. Responsible for providing appropriate instrumentation and supplies to the surgeon in using aseptic technique. The Surgical Technologist performs specific duties while covering for Surgical Tech on break which include but are not limited to: provide active coverage, continue assisting surgeon during operation within the surgical technologist scope of practice, prepares rooms, assists the surgical team during operative procedures, assist in cleaning and preparing the room between procedures, maintains aseptic technique. Participate in the daily activities of the department as an active team member Demonstrates proficiency in delivering care to assigned age specific patient population (e.g., infants, adolescents, adults, geriatrics, pediatrics), and participates in related continuing education.

Implement and maintain established department, unit, and hospital policies, procedures, and objectives as well as improving organization performance program, patient/customer safety, environmental, and infection control policies
Assist surgeons during operations limited to the surgical technologist scope of practice
Maintain aseptic techniques; actively monitors situations which could lead to breaches in aseptic technique. Reports breaks in technique immediately to circulator and surgeon. Wears eye protection at all times
Cover meal and rest breaks for surgical techs
Prepare the Operating room for cases by setting up table, instruments and supplies according to type of case
Assist in maintaining correct count of instruments, sutures and sponges. Reports incorrect counts immediately to surgeon
Open sterile supplies and sets up for procedures
Assist with care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies
Assist in cleaning and preparing rooms between procedures and after terminal cleaning
Monitor and restock supplies
Prepare for surgical cases for the following day, by stocking case carts, reviewing preference cards and surgery schedule
Check the supplies for outdates
Provide comfort and support for pre operative patients by demonstrating sensitivity to patient's care and privacy
Maintain a surgical "neutral zone" for passing of surgical sharps
Identify and care for specimens
Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in service meetings, and workshops
Cover on call assignments; arrive at Medical Center within 30 minutes of notification
Drape patients for surgical procedures
Transport patients to and from clinical, ancillary, and support department areas as directed by circulator and/or charge nurse
Attend meetings as required
Participate in unit/hospital quality improvement activities
Perform other duties as assigned or requested
Required qualifications for this position includes:
Course in surgical technology or equivalent on the job training
National Certification as a Certified Technologist (CST) issued by the Liaison Council on Certification of the Surgical Technologist
BLS for Healthcare Providers sponsored by the American Red Cross
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
