Providence Health & Services Staff Development/Education Coordinator in North Hollywood, California
Providence is calling a Staff Development/Education Coordinator (Full time/Day shift) to the Providence Saint Elizabeth Care Center in North Hollywood, CA.
We are seeking a Staff Development/Education Coordinator who will organize and develop the Staff Development program under the direction of the Director of Nursing and with the consultation of the Administrator. Demonstrate proficiency in delivering care to assigned age-specific resident population (geriatrics), and participates in related continuing education. Schedule work assignments of Certified Nursing Assistants.
In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
Maintain established policies, procedures, and objectives as well as quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control policies
Continually assess and evaluate the current orientation program and present recommendations for change to the Director of Nursing and/or the Administrator
Continually assess residents needs in relation to staff development needs as a basis for determining priorities regarding the ongoing staff educational program
Schedule Certified Nursing Assistant staff, evaluate performance, and make recommendations for personnel actions
Plan, schedule, and document in-service education and staff development for the improvement of skills of all nursing staff members on all shifts
Perform follow-up supervision of the employee for a reasonable and adequate length of time after a procedure or policy has been taught or reviewed
Document orientation and staff development hours on the employee's training record
Assist in resident and family teaching
Establish a rapport with the educational community in which the facility is located
Provide adequate instruction on the Resident Care Plan and may attend interdisciplinary meetings in the facility to update Resident Care Plan
Maintain documentation in the form of skills inventories, individual learning experience forms, group attendance sheets, and learning experience calendars
Review and update nursing manual and writes policies and procedures as needed
Assist the Director of Nursing as appropriate
Provide adequate instruction in and assists in chart audits
Attend staff meetings as required. May attend and participate in department head meetings, policy development meetings, pharmaceutical committee meetings, infection control committee meetings, safety committee meetings, procedure manual revision meetings, and inspection exit conference meetings
Develop a teacher-student rapport with the staff by being available as a good listener when needed and referring disciplinary action, except when the resident's health and life are threatened, to the Director of Nursing or the Administrator as appropriate
Respond to problems, feelings, opinions expressed by residents, families, and/or employees, and informs Administrator and/or Director of Nursing regarding such concerns
Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops
Maintain good interpersonal relationships with residents and their families, nursing personnel, allied professional services, and the community
Required qualifications for this position include:
Education to meet certification, license or registration requirement
California Licensed Registered Nurse or California Licensed Vocational Nurse
American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers
Director of Staff Development Certificate within thirty (30) days of hire
Successful completion of the CDC Nursing Home Infection Preventionist Training course with thirty (30) days of hire
2 or more years experience as a Licensed Vocational or Registered Nurse providing direct nursing care to the elderly
Demonstrates knowledge of teaching/supervisory skills
Demonstrates effective communication skills
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Experience as an MDS Coordinator
Experience in infection prevention
