The Medical Social Worker functions as part of a professional care coordination team of medical providers, law enforcement, forensic interviewers, DCYF workers, tribal social workers, advocates and others to provide skilled psychosocial services to patients and their families or caregivers. The MSW is a resource to clinical staff to assist them in evaluating patient needs for psychosocial and emotional support and to patients and families for dealing with crisis, transitions and continuity of care. Also the medical social worker provides, as needed, basic assessments of needs and recommends possible therapeutic interventions. The medical social worker has the necessary counseling skills to provide individual counseling to patients and their families, if needed.
In this position you will:

The MSW is a resource to clinical staff to provide, as needed, basic assessments of needs and recommend possible therapeutic interventions.
The MSW assists families and caregivers during crisis, transitions and continuity of care.
Assess patient and family dynamics, needs and tailors services provided to meet those needs. In addition, identify and refer to outside supports to meet individual needs.
Assess if and when a joint forensic interview and medical appointment might be beneficial and coordinate with forensic interview staff to schedule.
Research and maintain psychoeducational resources and handouts to be given during clinic visit or to families that decline a visit but would still like to receive information.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Master’s degree in Social Work from an accredited school
Current Washington State Licensure as a Clinical Social Worker or related Social Work License.
One (1) year working in a multi-disciplinary setting
Current Drivers License
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Three (3) years social services experience with a health care related organization, including a minimum of 2 years in a multi-disciplinary health care setting and specialized training in child abuse and crisis intervention
Experience working with Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice professional

Providence St. Peter Hospital Sexual Assault Clinic & Child Maltreatment Center is located in Lacey, Washington, and provide medical services to children and vulnerable adults who are victims of sexual or physical abuse. Our clinic is the only facility of its kind in the Southwest Washington region and serves communities in Thurston, Grays Harbor, Lewis, Mason and Pacific counties. Our clinic is home to Washington State’s first Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) program, conducting forensic evaluations for several area medical facilities. Our clinic receives referrals from law enforcement, Child Protective Services (CPS) and area health care providers. In addition to intensive history taking, medical evaluations (including colposcopic genital exams), and forensic collection, the clinic provides crisis counseling for both the victims of sexual abuse and their families.
