Providence Health & Services Property Maintenance Technician III - Plant Operations in Olympia, Washington


Providence is calling a Property Maintenance Technician III (1.0 FTE/40 hours per week, Day Shift) to work in Plant Operations at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, Washington.

The Property Maintenance Technician III will be responsible for maintaining, repairing and remodeling various hospital buildings and is responsible for day-to-day building operations by providing preventive maintenance of building systems, responding to department requests and making minor repairs to buildings. Maintenance and repair activities include troubleshooting and repairing HVAC units, lighting fixtures, door and lock hardware, kitchen appliances and equipment, plumbing, pumps, valves, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, building energy management systems and fire/life safety systems. Other activities include drywall installation and repair, carpentry work (framing, finish and cabinetry), carpet and vinyl flooring installation, painting, masonry repairs, irrigation system repairs, and lifting and moving furniture within and between buildings.

In this position you will:

  • Perform a wide variety of work requiring a variety of skills and abilities including but not limited to HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical, hydraulics, welding, painting, plastering, flooring, roofing, masonry, irrigation, appliance repairs, furniture moving and other duties as assigned.

  • Assist with building system repairs and modifications with regard to shutdowns, system investigations and installation of system elements

  • Maintain positive communication. Evaluate, prioritize, respond to, and follows-up on maintenance/repair/remodel requests and problems to ensure customer satisfaction

  • Maintain all tools, parts and supplies in an organized manner

  • Possess independent judgment while carrying out maintenance and repair tasks.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Valid Washington driver’s license with clear driving record

  • 5 years of commercial building maintenance (healthcare facility experience is not required) and highly skilled in one type of work

  • Recent work experience in three other types of work, and demonstrable knowledge of three other types of work (i.e., maintenance and repair experience in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, locksmithing, drywall, painting, flooring and roofing)

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Education or training in HVAC system maintenance and digital controls a plus

  • Building Operator Certification (BOC)

  • HVAC mechanical service and/or backflow device certification

  • Experience using a computerized maintenance management or automated work request system

  • HVAC digital control programming and HVAC mechanical service (repair and maintenance) experience
