Providence Health & Services Child Life Specialist - Medically Fragile Children in Portland, Oregon


Providence is calling a Child Life Specialist (0.6 FTE, Days) to Providence Child Center in Portland, OR.

The ideal candidate for this role has obtained a Child Life Specialist Certification.

This is a brand new role at the Child Center and there are only (4) other Child Life Specialist in the Portland Service Area.

In this position, you will:

  • Empower children for life’s challenges while providing high quality family-centered care as a part of a strong multidisciplinary team.

  • Provide psychosocial and developmental based assessment and support to both patients and their families.

  • Plan and provide emotionally and developmentally appropriate care that promotes effective coping with healthcare and continued cognitive and emotional growth.

  • Enhance the quality of patient care through participation, documentation and communication with other members of the healthcare team.

  • Serve as a resource and advocate on child development issues.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor Degree in Child Life or closely related field

  • Child Life Specialist certification within 6 months of hire

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • 1 year of work experience as a certified Child Life Specialist
