We are seeking a Medical Technologist to join our Medical Research department. You will be responsible for comprehensive development of high complexity laboratory test methodologies and procedures, utilizing in-depth technical and theoretical knowledge of instruments and methodologies.
This position is responsible for developing, analyzing and implementing test methodologies that produce accurate and timely patient results. Development technologists, like clinical testing personnel, are capable of performing pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical duties including specimen evaluation, data analysis, instrument maintenance and problem resolution. Development technologists work with acute-care and outpatient caregivers, vendors, consultants, and other Laboratory Services staff in performing their duties.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
In-depth understanding of responsibilities in assigned areas as demonstrated by:
Efficiently multi-tasking with low error rate
Resolving most moderately complex QC and trouble-shooting problems; utilizing QC data, instrument manuals and/or hotlines as resources
Performing calibration and validation of instruments and QC of reagents
Reviewing and evaluating test results for accuracy
Reviewing current literature and discussing with technical manager
Performing more complex instrument maintenance including replacement of common instrument parts
Monitoring levels of supplies and reagents
Adequately training students and new employees in routine operations
Acting as a resource for other testing personnel
Performing special projects under direction of senior personnel
Demonstrate enhanced written communication skills by:
Effectively documenting complex problems/corrective action with appropriate detail, utilizing appropriate departmental logs and report forms
Assisting w/ writing or revising procedures or training materials
Demonstrate enhanced verbal communications by:
Providing succinct situation summaries of evolving issues
Notifying supervisory staff of any problems in day-to-day operations
Demonstrate positive interpersonal skills by:
Working with others to see that all test and validation results are completed
Effectively working with others to identify, analyze, and resolve technical and procedural issues
Effectively training existing personnel on new procedures
Understand PHS laboratory business as demonstrated by:
Supporting principles of quality improvement, efficiency and customer service
Modeling safe work practices and appropriate use of PPE (personal protective equipment)
Participating in FTE/budget analysis investigations
Communicating service failures/problems to supervisor
Required qualifications for this position includes:
Bachelor's Degree in Clinical laboratory science (CLS), Medical technology (MT), Chemistry, Microbiology or a human biological science
Technologist/Scientist certification or registry (e.g. MT,MLS, MB) from a government agency or nationally recognized professional organization (eg. ASCP, NCA, HEW etc.).
ASCP certification obtained after 1/1/2004 must be renewed every 3 years
ASCP certification obtained prior to 1/1/2004 require no renewal
Three (3) years in a clinical, molecular diagnostics, or research laboratory setting
Demonstrated analytical and scientific competency with development and/or validation of lab techniques or procedures is required.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
- Master's Degree in Health-related field or the sciences
