Providence is calling a Genomics Software Engineer 2 to the Molecular Genomics Lab at the Providence Office Park in Portland, OR. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), variable shift position.

We are seeking a Genomics Software Engineer 2 that will be responsible for the development and maintenance of cutting-edge web-based tools in support of the Clinical Genomics program. Help lead a revolution in personalized healthcare through the development of enterprise-scale genomics initiatives. Clinical genomics results are utilized across Providence to make key care decisions across a wide variety of contexts including cancer care and heritable disease diagnosis and management.

The Software Engineer 2 will be integrated into a diverse team spanning software engineers, bioinformaticians, geneticists and pathologists. Core efforts are focused on genomics data analysis and visualization, integration with medical imaging and other health-related data assets. Software applications and genomics reports are accessed by a wide array of partners including the lab team, physicians and their patients.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, implement and document software to support clinical lab workflows for genomic analysis and reporting

  • Develop full stack software which integrates clinical and genomic data in a HIPAA secure environment

  • Work with clinical lab stakeholders to identify and develop enhancements to software and accompanying workflows

  • Apply modern software development approaches and technologies for secure, user-friendly web applications

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position includes:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Software Engineering related field including Computer Science, Computer Engineering, -OR- Information Technology

  • Three (3) years of Professional experience in software engineering

  • Significant Web Application Development expertise

  • Experience with Linux/Unix environments

  • Experience with Rails and/or Sinatra based web development

  • Experience with Git & GitHub

  • Demonstrated history of applying best practices in software development, including use of code repositories, version control, data and analysis provenance, containers, testing frameworks, continuous integration, and documentation

  • Experience building and integrating back-end web services (using JSON, AJAX, REST) and interfacing with databases

  • Significant experience with genomics datasets, bioinformatic pipelines and the handling of NGS datasets

  • Experience with DevOps approach to software deployment

  • Fluent with multiple languages, including Ruby, Javascript, Python

Preferred qualifications for this position includes:

  • Experience with genomics datasets or healthcare data

  • Experience with cloud technologies

  • Experience with Docker/Container based technologies

  • Experience with MongoDB or similar

  • Experience with scalable distributed computing systems
