Providence is calling an Inpatient Dietitian to Nutrition Services (0.0 FTE, Days) to Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in Portland, OR
On-call Days, Including Occasional Weekends
We are seeking a Registered and Licensed Dietitian who will work closely with the departmental and interdisciplinary health care team to provide inpatient care that is integrated and compatible with patient-centered medical goals and objectives. Utilizes the Nutrition Care Process and Terminology (NCPT) to assess nutrition status, identify nutrition diagnoses, performs nutrition-focused physical examination, interprets results and makes nutrition diagnoses, orders nutrition and diet orders, designs and implement nutrition care plans and evaluate outcomes of nutrition care plans for patients who are at nutrition risk or malnourished. Provides medical nutrition therapy and professional nutrition counseling methods to patients, families and the community.
A Dietitian who will apply evidence-based practice guidelines, instructional methods and tools in clinical practice. Utilizes nutrition-related information systems and patient medical record systems to successfully coordinate patient nutrition care and dining experiences.
In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
Assess the patient's current nutritional status and metabolic condition to recognize characteristics that place patient at risk for malnutrition, and other nutrition related problems including nutrient deficiency, insufficiency and excess
Identify, define, develop, implement and monitor the nutrition care plan to meet identified nutrition-related outcomes
Clearly document nutrition plan in medical record following standards of care and approved charting formats
Critically analyze and report findings to, and in conjunction with the physician, health care staff, patients and/or families to coordinate nutrition care for the best patient outcome
Write diet related orders in the patients' medical record to enable timely and accurate patient treatment and outcomes
Monitor, identify and manage ongoing patient nutritional needs, recommending appropriate modifications in medical nutrition therapy as indicated, or writing orders within scope of practice
Implement medical staff approved nutrition protocols to provide optimal patient care
Provide and document discharge information and discharge care plans to patients and their next care providers
Contact and communicates verbally with physicians when the patient nutrition condition requires rapid physician response
Create a Nutrition Diagnosis of protein-calorie malnutrition for all patients based on approved clinical characteristics, bring all patients with nutrition risk and malnutrition concerns to the attention of the physician in a timely manner using organizational standard processes
Assist in the development of educational programs and literature to support healthy nutrition habits and lifestyles
Counsel, teach and support patients, family and care providers in principles and applications of the nutrition plan, taking into account individual patients' unique cultural, religious, physical or age-related needs and preferences
Collaborate with other professionals for care and reports patient care practices when they are inconsistent with accepted clinical nutrition practice
Perform all duties within the context of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Scope of Practice of the registered dietitian nutritionist in a manner that promotes team concept and reflects the Providence Health & Services mission, values, goals and philosophy
Required qualifications for this position includes:
Bachelor's Degree in Dietetics, foods and nutrition or related area granted by a U.S. regionally accredited college or university, or foreign equivalent
Completion of required dietetics coursework and supervised practice through a Didactic Program in Dietetics and Dietetic Internship or Coordinated Program in Dietetics accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics
Registered Dietitian Nutritionist by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)
License to practice as a registered dietitian in the State of Oregon
Unregistered dietitians who hold a verification statement or certificate of completion from the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) showing completion of the ACEND approved dietetic internship, and who are eligible to take the Commission on Dietetic Registration examination to be a registered dietitian or registered dietitian nutritionist, may be hired with some caveats
Hire is pending passing the examination and being accepted for licensure in Oregon, within three (3) months of the hire date
One more attempt at passing the exam may be considered within a specified time frame not to exceed two (2) additional months
Should the person again not pass the exam, they will be terminated from employment
This option is only available in facilities where there is another RD LD able to co-sign on all health record notes
Preferred qualifications for this position includes:
Master's Degree, Registered and licensed dietitians with degree in Dietetics-related field or degree in Dietetics field expected to be conferred within three (3) months
One (1) year Experience in clinical setting for generalist
