Providence Health & Services Lead Respiratory Therapist - Respiratory Therapy in Portland, Oregon


Providence is calling a Senior Lead Respiratory Therapist - Respiratory Therapy (0.9 FTE, Nights) to Providence Portland Medical Center in Portland , OR.

This position will work 2 12 hour shifts per week and every other weekend 6:30pm - 7am

We are seeking a Senior Lead Respiratory Therapist - Respiratory Therapy that will schedule, coordinate, supervise, and perform respiratory therapy activities. Responsible for effective and efficient implementation of policies and procedures on assigned shift.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Participate in the selection process of new employees

  • Assure adequate coverage for the shift and coordinates staffing needs

  • Assist with schedule development

  • Evaluate the performance of personnel on assigned shift and is involved in the disciplinary process where needed

  • Act as a resource person and liaison for the assigned shift

  • Train and orient employees on the assigned shift

  • Work with Respiratory Therapy management in the planning and problem-solving processes

  • Actively participate in intradepartmental work groups

  • Provide for accurate administration of respiratory medications by preparing prescribed medications for aerosolization

  • Determine appropriate type of therapy for specific disease states

  • Perform arteriotomy for arterial blood gas analysis

  • Perform diagnostic measurements of functional capacity including weaning measurements and spirometry

  • Provide for effective, rapid emergency treatment by responding to emergency codes

  • Provide for effective communication and education by consulting with and serving as a resource for physicians, staff, and students

  • Assure proper functioning of life sustaining equipment, i.e., ventilators and oxygen delivery devices

  • Consistently provide care appropriate to the age of the patient, including newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric

  • Demonstrate competence in interpreting the patient's behavior and information with understanding of chronological maturation and individual development


Required qualification in this position includes:

  • Associate's Degree: Graduate of an accredited school for Respiratory

  • Licensed by the Oregon Respiratory Therapist Licensing Board as Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP)

  • Registry by National Board for Respiratory Care (RRT)

  • Current Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification

  • Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) certification

Preferred qualification in this position includes:

  • Bachelor's Degree: Graduate of an accredited school for Respiratory

  • Supervisory experience

  • Polysomnography experience (night shift lead)
