Providence  RN, Enterostomal Therapist - Wound Care (0.9 FTE Days) in Portland, Oregon


RN, Wound Ostomy and Continence at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in Portland, OR. This position will work four 8 hour day shifts one week and 5 the next.

The Enterostomal Therapist (Wound Ostomy and Continence RN) is a professional practitioner who functions independently within a flexible hospital-wide practice realm. The ET applies knowledge drawn from a broad in-depth education in the social and physical sciences in assessing, planning, ordering, giving delegating teaching and supervising nursing care of patients undergoing radical bowel and bladder surgical procedures to promote the patient's return to a condition of optimal health and independence. The ET will assess and plan the wound care for patients referred by a physician to optimize the patient's wound healing. The ET is responsible for developing the expertise of the nursing staff in acute direct-care situations as well as in assessing the educational needs of wound and ostomy patients and their families and the nursing staff caring for them. The ET also functions as an educator and consultant for community outreach programs directed to the care of persons with ostomies. The ET scope of practice includes inpatient and outpatient management of wound care, continence, and ostomy care. Authority and responsibility for these programs extends over twenty-four hours.

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing

  • 2 years Nursing experience with knowledge of and exposure to ostomy, wound care and continence.

  • Experience using personal computer in Windows environment.

  • Oregon Registered Nurse License

  • Required upon hire: National Provider BLS - American Heart Association (Vendor Managed)

  • Required upon hire: Certification as an Enterostomal Therapist by the Wound Ostomy Continence Nursing Certification Board (WOCN) or Association for Advanced Wound Care (CWS)
