Providence is calling a Principal Labor & Employee Relations Consultant, TEMP to Providence St Joseph Health in Renton, WA.
We are seeking a Principal Labor & Employee Relations Consultant to be responsible for serving as a strategic data and report consultant to local HR, Labor Employment Relations Executive Directors, Labor and Employment VPs and operational leaders who face organizing activity and employee relations issues where labor relations and strategic data reporting subject-matter expertise is needed. The role includes facilitating and recommending best practice approaches to labor and employee relations, adherence to HR policies, compliance with regulatory and policy requirements, investigation guidance, preparing data metrics and dashboards and making strategic recommendations for workplace environment improvement based on data trends. A Principal Labor & Employee Relations Consultant will provide seasoned expertise and recommend appropriate data systems to support regulatory and agency requirements, as well as all federal and state employment laws. Strategically designs and maintains HR metrics and dashboards and reports to other HR professionals so actions can be aligned with findings. This role performs all duties in a manner which promotes teamwork and reflects the Providence St Joseph Health mission, values and philosophy and the values of the human resources division.
In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
Analyzes Ministry/business needs; acts quickly to generate alternative approaches and recommendations for labor relations and employee relations strategies; provides long-term and broad views regarding labor implications of business decisions. Partners with local HR, business leaders, LERC Executive Directors and Labor and Employment Counsel to plan and review labor relations and employee relations strategies and communication plans to attain goals.
Works collaboratively with HR staff to manage risk and make recommendations for the administration and delivery of HR services (Risk Management, regulatory bodies, EEOC and state agencies-Affirmative Action, Worker’s Comp, ADA/LOA, Wage & Hour, Wrongful Discharge)
Analyzes and interprets HR data and other data sources for trends and opportunities. Advocates fair & appropriate workplace practices in accordance with mission, values, legal parameters. Mentors team members, sharing skill, expertise and experience and providing subject matter expertise to everyone within the HR team
Promotes and utilizes HR technology, metrics, and systems to support the overall needs of the business. Collaborates with local HR and others if new tools are needed to ensure customers are provided trend reports and analytics in the most efficient manner. Partner with local HR or HRCs to assist with environmental and vulnerability assessments when needed
Collaborate with local HR to provide consultation to managers on labor and employee relations strategies. Assists in training and education to all levels of the organization. In conjunction with Labor/Employment Counsel, may serve as a labor relations consultant and analyst in preparing for labor relations training and vulnerability assessments.
Collaborate with Labor/Employment Counsel to prepare for and support collective bargaining negotiations and contract implementation.

Required qualifications for this position include:
Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business or related field or equivalent experience in lieu of degree and SPHR/PHR certificate.
7 year experience as an HR Strategic Partner or HR Consultant or comparable role.
Demonstrates expert knowledge of labor relations and employee relations principles, including federal and state laws, company policies, and collective bargaining agreements.
Works collaboratively to address and proactively avoid employee relations issues.
Demonstrates expert knowledge of employment law and human resources policies and practices.
Demonstrates seasoned understanding of human resource management programs and their interrelationships. Appropriately understands and applies policies and procedures on day to day issues. Demonstrates ability to develop strategic responses and resolutions to complex employee matters.
Demonstrates ability to interpret and administer collective bargaining agreements, draft defensible grievance responses, identify potential unfair labor practices, and negotiate the contract renewal process.
Demonstrates ability to conduct timely, confidential and thorough investigations, as well as evaluating data collected and making logical recommendations for closure.
Demonstrates advanced experience in one or more of the following specialty areas: labor relations, ADAAA, Leaves of Absence, Affirmative Action, mediation, or OD.
Ability to prepare and deliver presentations to explain processes, designs, and procedures. Excellent proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English.
Demonstrates outstanding communications skills including verbal communications and the written word.
Demonstrates outstanding facilitation and mediation skills. Knowledge of structured meeting procedures.
Pro-actively identifies ways to enhance or improve programs, processes and systems.
Orientation towards win-win problem resolution.
Demonstrates ability to research and digest information pertinent to new and or unexpected events/projects.
Demonstrates the ability to develop and plan complex and long term projects taking into consideration multiple information sources.
Demonstrates ability to listen for key messages/themes. Identifies all sides of the issues with the ability to separate facts and data from emotion.
Demonstrated skills in working collaboratively, courteously and tactfully with difficult situations and/or people to identify issues and solve problems.
Ability to travel extensively and adapt to unique working conditions/environments. You will be asked to travel during union campaigns, Monday - Friday up to 6 weeks at a time.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Consulting experience highly desirable.
Multi-site/location, multi-line of business, and/or integrated health system experience
