Providence Pharmacy Technician II in Santa Monica, California
Description:
Providence is calling a Pharmacy Technician II for Per Diem Variable Shift at Providence Saint John's Health Center in Santa Monica, CA.
We are seeking a Pharmacy Technician II who will perform technical functions related to the drug distribution system under the supervision of a pharmacist.

Position Specific Expectations:
Complete initial competency assessment requirements, including age specific competencies for all patients to whom pharmaceutical care is provided; successfully completes annual competency assessment exams
Prioritize work effectively

Answer the telephone when needed (everyone's job)
Attend and participate in team meetings
Fill patient cassettes
Assist in the drug distribution process utilizing current automation equipment
Use appropriate and courteous phone etiquette
Perform other basic drug distributive functions as needed
Use of technology/computers:
Generate required reports
Utilize unit-dosing machine, fax machine, photocopier; familiar with basic maintenance of laminar flow hoods
Possess knowledge of USP 797 guidelines
Quality of work:
Perform job functions with minimum errors: filling medication orders, filling automated dispensing machines
Document on required forms
Leave workstation tidy and restocked
Productivity:
Complete tasks in timely manner
Perform required tasks in appropriate time frame
Be aware of workload and prioritizes effectively
Take initiative during slow times to assist others ex: prepare emergency trays, put away returns, check outdates, restock shelves, unit dosing, and any other department related activity
Resource Utilization:
Use resources effectively Examples: Recycles IV piggybacks, checks for discontinued medications prior to sending
Properly manage supplies; re-stocks and reorders medications when needed
Maintain appropriate par levels
Remove outdated medications
Development:
Perform/participate in team CQI activities/goal attainment
Participate in team administrative functions as directed (scheduling, ordering, minutes, QA reviews, etc.)
Pharmacy Technician II:
In addition to performing all responsibilities of a Pharmacy Technician Generalist and Pharmacy Technician I, Pharmacy Technician II shall be responsible for:
Prepare Intravenous solutions (Large volume IVs, IVPBs, Neonatal starter TPNs, and pediatric/neonatal IV preparations)
Prepare Chemotherapy IV preparations
Successful training and ability to work in a specialized pharmacy area (ex. Operating Room Satellite, Buyer shift), as approved by the Director of Pharmacy or designee
Completion of an annual project related to performance/process improvement or pharmacy environment improvement: either a different project each year or an ongoing project throughout a period of time, as designated by the Director of Pharmacy or designee
Qualifications:
Required qualifications:
Current California Pharmacy technician license
Ability to work cooperatively with many people
Ability to prioritize, organize, and coordinate work with others
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
Ability to apply sound judgment
Ability to work independently but under the supervision of a pharmacist
Typing and ability to learn hospital computer system skills
Pharmacy Technician II:
Successful passing of a calculations test (80%)
Successful passing of an annual Sterile Compounding Competency
Proficient mathematical skills, preferred
Qualify to prepare Chemotherapy IV solutions
Preferred qualifications:
Pharmacy Technician program degree
1 year experience as a hospital pharmacy technician, or
Completion of a technician training program, or
Experience in a hospital pharmacy, with a demonstrated ability to learn technical skills
