Providence Director of Website Analytics in Seattle, Washington


Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a Director of Website Analytics for the Digital Innovation Group. Candidates for this role may reside in Washington, Alaska, Montana, Oregon or California.

We are looking for a seasoned leader who has a proven record of successfully building and supporting data & analytics solutions and platforms to join us in our evolution, taking a leading role in designing, implementing and evolving innovative capabilities tailored to solving complex scenarios in an agile manner. The ideal candidate will have experience creating a scalable tech and non-tech team while maintaining engineering excellence and platform standards on execution. The Website Analytics team is responsible for the analytics, engineering and operations of end-to-end data, analytics, and reporting capabilities. This team enables users across multiple functions to effectively monitor, analyze, and make data-driven decisions on their business. As our customer base and portfolio of products grows, the desire for more insights, better coaching, and improvements in efficiencies outpace the supply. We are expanding the analytics and engineering team to include a new team focused solely on Analytics, Insights and optimization. This will be a critical role that has the chance to build out the team from scratch and we are looking for a Analytics Leader to lead the effort.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Be responsible for leading the web analytics insights and analytics engineering teams supporting our patient digital experiences. You will be accountable for the intake and prioritization process for analytical needs, be the “voice” of analytics in leadership forums; up-level data-informed storytelling across the organization, partnering with multiple business, analytics, marketing, and technology teams across the organization.

  • Coach and mentor a team of Web Analysts and Engineers to formulate, design and create analytical projects

  • Work collaboratively with data engineering teams as required to acquire all necessary data to support project needs (data exploration, training data, feature engineering, modeling, etc.….)

  • Support analytics design decisions by taking relevant inputs from business team and defining clear plan for analytics team; pushes analytics teams to confirm assumptions, extract relevant insights and to interpret the models and outputs

  • Lead communication of analytics outputs with executives; acts as bridge between management and analytics specialists; Shares insights with business stakeholders and collects input

  • Continuously learn about the industry trends and keep the key stakeholders educated

  • Lead and develop an awesome team of, retain and attract great talent

  • Create and execute against a unified cross-company data & analytics platform vision.

  • Technical vision, keeping our platform and delivery mechanisms on the latest technology.

  • Guaranteeing security, privacy and compliance assurance across all assets and solutions.

  • Understanding of our customers and core processes we support.

  • Your Daily Adventures Will Include

  • Collaborate closely with recruiting to define job requirements, interview candidates, and build a team from scratch

  • Manage, coach, and mentor a team

  • Own the project backlog for your team, working closely with product management and engineering stakeholders to identify projects and set priorities

  • Define an overarching end-to-end system architecture, vision and strategy to maximize the utility of enterprise data assets and enable & innovate a broad set of use cases.

  • Define standards to support data governance.

  • Maintain and scale infrastructure. Excel in telemetry to ensure operational excellence and resilience of the infrastructure.

  • Your team will be responsible for the analysis that cuts through an ocean of data to identify and articulate clear business opportunities. More specifically you and your team will:

  • Be strategic. The most important part of your role is working with business owners to truly understand how their business works and what their data insight needs are. You’ll then provide them with the analytic tools they need to both efficiently manage their business and identify opportunities for dramatic growth.

  • Find and fix problems. Our business moves quickly and has a lot of moving parts. Your team will be constantly monitoring performance and, if something looks off, the answer will be in the data. Your team will jump on it right away to identify the issue and propose a solution.

  • Be responsive. Ad hoc data requests come in all the time and you’ll be responsible for scoping them, prioritizing them (including pushing back when needed) and, if they’re going to move the needle, making them happen.

  • Systematize what you can. Being asked for the same ad hoc reports all the time? You’ll find a way to implement a scalable, efficient, repeatable solution. And ideally, ones that are self-serve for business owners.

  • Ensure rigor in our AB testing. We are continuously testing. Although the conversion optimization and product management team will set up the tests, your team will be responsible for ensuring that the test data is being collected correctly and is rigorously analyzed so we make the right call. Every time.

  • Identify opportunities. Before we develop a new feature, your team will be responsible for arming them with data

  • Wrangle Website Analytics to extract maximum value. A robust understanding of website usage is critical in helping us serve our visitors better every day."


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor's DegreeBA/BS in computer science, mathematics, statistics, or other technical/quantitative

  • More than 10 yearsof related experience

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Master's Degreein Business Administration

  • 6 years experience leading teams

  • 3 years Building Analytics Solutions experience
