Providence Health & Services Admissions Intake Nurse ( RN ) in Spokane, Washington
Providence is calling a Admissions Intake Nurse ( RN) (Patient Registration, Day Shift, Mon-Friday: 8:00am - 4:30pm, Rotating Call Weekends) to Providence St. Joseph Care Center in Spokane, Washington. In this position you will:
Respond to incoming calls from patients, families, physicians, and referral sources: Provides general information about skilled nursing and rehab services in response to inquiries. Collects sufficient and appropriate referral information to determine a prospective patient's service needs.
Maintain close communication with IDT including: DNS, ADON, Staffing Coordinator, TCU/LTC Nurse Managers regarding daily staff and bed availability for confirmed and prospective admits.
Maintain close communications with Hospital Liaisons, social work discharge planners, and hospital-based Nurse Clinicians in relationship to issues around patient referrals, discharge plans, and needs.
Assessment parameters to include identifying medical necessity criteria, discussing findings with DNS and Medical Director when indicated by review.
Initiate an individualized nursing care plan based on assessment data, and shares important information about patients with IDT members.
Contribute to PSJCC function, though effective time management, utilization of problem solving skills to address issues: Appropriately utilizes Manager of Nursing or other Administrator for guidance/problem solving. Maintains professional appearance. Attends mandatory in-services. Participates in identifying topics for in-services. Completes all competencies required and maintains competencies to provide care to patients if needed. Participates in new staff orientation and training as appropriate. Participates in quality improvement activities and improvement of care activities by gathering data for QAPI, identifying issues and implementing recommended changes as appropriate.
Alert appropriate department supervisors and building staff of projected changes (i.e., admissions, bed changes, and discharges) by chairing daily admission meeting to discuss forthcoming changes. Utilizes bed management principles.
Maintain a close working relationship with the Director of Nursing and the Director of Operations to ensure appropriate and efficient decisions about prospective admissions. Recommends admission decisions to facility management. Once admissions determinations are made communicates with nursing and housekeeping about appropriate room and bed selection.
Communicate clearly, sensitively and in a supportive professional manner with patients/family/caregivers, co-workers and the public: Seeks ideas, opinions and feelings of patients/family/caregivers and co-workers. Expresses self in a calm, clear, confident manner in verbal, non-verbal, and written communication. Demonstrates awareness of own views/values/beliefs and works to minimize any limiting/negative impact on patient care and professional relationships.
Maintain working knowledge of Federal and State regulations and reimbursement (Managed Care, Medicare, and Medicaid). Maintains a strong working knowledge of managed care referral process.
Monitor and evaluate customer satisfaction. Audiences might include new admissions, post-discharges, current residents and families, community sources and inquiries that were unable to admit. Shares results with management team and others as appropriate to develop action plan(s) as needed.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Education sufficient for licensure
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Washington
2 years experience in LTC, TCU or equivalent
Thorough knowledge of and proficiency in nursing principles, process, and procedures
Effective problem solving, communication, and organizational skills
General home care knowledge and skill
Customer service skills
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
2 years in business development/sales/marketing position
Knowledge of the practice of IV therapy

Providence St. Joseph Care Center in Spokane, Washington is located on the campus of Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center & Children's Hospital. Our Transitional Care Unit is designed for patients coming out of the hospital who need skilled nursing care, end of life care, or rehabilitation for those recovering from surgery or who have a functional loss from illness, disease, or an accident. Our Long Term Care unit provides skilled nursing in a residential setting, addressing the needs of our residents through creating a sense of community and home and providing a model of care that is resident-centered.
