Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a Vice President, Chief Strategy Officer to Providence Washington and Montana Region.

The VP, Chief Strategy Officer is responsible and accountable for developing, implementing and monitoring key health system strategies and major tactics to enhance growth, access and effectiveness for the Providence Washington-Montana Region, consistent with the Mission, Values, goals and objectives of the Washington-Montana Region and Providence St. Joseph Health, the strategic priorities of the Region and the Service areas, and to better meet the needs of the citizens of Washington and Montana for quality health services. The role will include a focus on the effective organization and integration of the health system, integration of the strategic plan across System and Regional divisions: home and community services, hospitals, ambulatory services and clinical programs and will be accountable for Washington-Montana Region strategic planning, service line development and physician strategy. This position will explore and develop new business opportunities and partnerships that expand the Region’s geographic coverage of current programs into new markets, as well as new programs and services related to the healthcare ministry.

The position partners with other Washington-Montana executives in the development of varying business models to continue the ministry across the Region. Partnering with the Washington-Montana Executive Council and System executives, the position leads the development and analysis on all strategic issues including expansion beyond the Region. The position provides expert advice, counsel, and strategic planning to the Service Areas, Service Lines, and Shared Services as appropriate. The position is part of the Washington-Montana Executive Council and the Washington-Montana Operations Council.

The management portfolio held by this leader is notably diverse, with corresponding broad organizational implications and complexity, characterized by substantial scope of responsibility. The Washington and Montana Region includes six Service Areas with 13 hospitals, 6 diverse Medical Groups and over $4.7 billion in net operating revenue.

In this position you will:

  • Ensure that the mission and core values are forefront of all activities.

  • Participate actively in strategic planning and budgetary formation in conjunction with the Chief Executive, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Financial Officer and Service Area Chief Executives to ensure strong and focused operational and financial management of the acute care business.

  • Develop the strategic plan for the Washington-Montana Region.

  • Develop long-range strategic direction and strategic plan to ensure alignment of operational plans and objectives across the Washington-Montana Region and within the context of the System Strategic Plan and the Providence St. Joseph Health Mission and Values.

  • Explore and develop business opportunities and working closely with the Washington-Montana EVP/Chief Executive, Washington/Montana & Chief Executive Officer PHC to expand geographic coverage of current programs into new markets as well as new programs and services related to the delivery system.

  • Plan, coordinate and direct development and implementation of Region-wide annual planning process to ensure alignment of short and long range operational plans, goals and objectives across the Region and System, including alignment with financial strategies.

  • Provide leadership in support of the interests of physicians, physician organizations, including physician recruitment and development of relational models. Work with private practice physicians to develop partnership models. Coordinate with internal and external medical groups, other health systems, health plans, hospital and Shared Services employees to establish, design or provide an effective and efficient continuum of service to members and patients.

  • Assess macroeconomic issues impacting the Washington-Montana Region and develops solutions.

  • Direct the integration of Service Areas in the Region, and the various resources committed to strategic planning and business development.

  • Seek opportunities for growth and recommends the scope of existing programs and development of additional programs and System-wide efforts for business development.

  • Develop networks and relationships with community leaders, physicians, employers, and other providers to enhance the strategic position and health services provided throughout the Region and the Service Areas.

  • Serve as a member of the Washington-Montana Executive Council; attend various System meetings as directed by the EVP/Chief Executive, Washington/Montana & Chief Executive Officer PHC; represent the Region at community events and activities as requested.

  • Lead Telehealth and Outreach.

  • Coordinate process and application related to Certificate of Need in Washington State in coordination with system leaders.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration, Health Planning, Business Administration or related field.

  • 7 – 10 years of senior leadership experience in a healthcare delivery organization, preferable an acute care organization that is part of a healthcare delivery system.

  • Personal values and ethics which are consistent with those of the Sisters of Providence, the Washington-Montana Region, and Providence St. Joseph Health.

  • Demonstrated skills in team building, problem solving, sound decision-making, innovation, and effective management of change.

  • A record of forming and implementing effective strategic alignment for an integrated delivery system.

  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Broad knowledge and understanding of the trends and changes taking place in health care and their implications.

  • Strong ability to lead teams and maintain positive professional development.

  • A track record of successful large project implementations.

  • Demonstrated business savvy to work effectively with other executives to achieve key business and technology goals.

  • Demonstrated project management skills.

  • Working knowledge of integrated delivery systems, supporting business models and varying partnership alignments.

  • Experience with acquisitions, mergers and divestitures.

COHE Community of Eastern Washington, a collaborative program funded by the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries, COHE Community of Eastern Washington is focused on the goals of improving injured worker outcomes and preventing disability. Our COHE coordinates with health care providers, employers, labor unions and the injured worker in a cooperative effort to get people back on the job safely and efficiently.

Health Training brings the latest health care information to regional and national health care providers and EMS agencies. Meeting industry standards and certifications, Health Training’s nationally-recognized classes are for health care providers at every level - from first time provider to instructor - level professionals through in-person and online classes.

Northwest TeleHealth, a robust video-conference network providing live, confidential interaction between healthcare organizations in support of patients in rural settings. Northwest TeleHealth benefits rural communities by providing access to urban medical resources such as patient consults with specialty providers, health education, medical training, business administration and other health care related activities.

Community Wellness provides a central location for health education, prevention, screenings, interventions and wellness assessments. Community Wellness conducts assessments, screenings and education on topics including tobacco cessation, obesity prevention, weight management, health coaching and diabetes. Kadlec Health System, named for Lieutenant Colonel Harry Kadlec who helped build the infrastructure to support the 50,000 person workforce that constructed the Hanford nuclear site in the 1940s. Today Kadlec is a thriving healthcare organization of more than 3,300 caregivers in a growing Tri-Cities (Richland, Pasco, and Kennewick) community.
