Providence Health & Services Nuclear Medicine Technologist in Torrance, California

Providence is calling a Nuclear Medicine Technologist (On Call/Variable Shift) at Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center Torrance in Torrance, CA.

We are seeking a Nuclear Medicine technologist who will provide health care services using radionuclides to assist in diagnosis and treatment. He/she must have the advanced skills to perform a wide variety of nuclear medicine procedures, computer processing of data and other technical tasks necessary to produce images for the interpretation by, and at the request of a licensed practitioner. He/she must exercise professional judgment in the performance of services and maintain a demeanor complementary to medical ethics while providing appropriate care essential for successful completion of procedures.

  • Adhere to organization wide and department specific policies and procedures. Exhibit working knowledge of policies and references policies as needed

  • Actively create an environment of safe delivery of patient care and functions with constant awareness of safety issues. Immediately correct and report unsafe conditions found

  • Must be knowledgeable of radiation safety, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) fire/safety policies and procedures

  • Perform and/or assist with nuclear medicine procedures according to approved department procedure manual

  • Survey, prepare, dispense and administer radiopharmeceuticals and related materials in accordance with approved department procedure manual and radioactive material’s license. Document necessary information

  • Perform non-imaging cold lab procedures and quality control procedures as required

  • Perform therapy procedures as required

  • Perform pharmacological stress testing including lead placement

  • Prepare patient for procedure by gaining cooperation and minimizing anxiety. Provide teaching to patient and family

  • Demonstrate complete working knowledge of all nuclear medicine equipment within the department (i.e., NMIS, Spect camera, computer equipment)

  • Perform daily entry into Nuclear Medicine QC System (Syntrac)

  • Provide radiation protection to patient, staff and self according to prescribed safety standards

  • Review patient questionnaire, clinical history , physician notes and/or special instructions. Consult with nuclear radiologist and patient if necessary to assure safety and appropriateness

  • Verify patient identification by verbal communication, ID band, etc.

  • Recognize emergency situations, initiate code and administer aid as needed

  • Prepare exams in workstations and PACS for interpretation including labeling, formatting and associated paperwork

  • Keep room/work area neat, orderly and prepared with supplies necessary to complete exams. Assist with ordering and stocking of supplies and equipment

  • Willingly perform other related duties outside immediate work area as assigned or required (i.e., scheduling, filing, transport )

  • Record pertinent patient information, complete all paperwork as required and assist in maintaining files. Review patients patient’s files and reports as needed per department policy. Must be proficient in the use of copier, fax and printer

  • Demonstrate working knowledge of hospital information system, computer-based systems

  • Demonstrate awareness of legal issues and compliance in respect to patient care. Maintain complete confidentiality of all patient Leads by example in demonstrated work ethic

  • Report and hospital related information. Secure and handle patient records maintaining patient confidentiality with respect to patient and family rights

  • Accurately record all work time including meal periods

  • Need to be ready for work at precise starting time and continue working until scheduled departure time. Return on time from all meal periods

  • Project a professional image, follow the hospital dress code policy and/or department requirements. Wear hospital name badge at all times on duty

  • Readily accept work assignments in a positive manner. Perform work that is accurate, neat and consistent. Documentation is legible.

  • Attend all assigned staff development activities including minimum attendance at all scheduled staff meetings

  • Participate in all in-services and cross training activities as necessary

  • Assume responsibility for own professional growth and practice. Assume responsibility for maintaining current CPR, TB screening, age specific and required license

  • Must be knowledgeable of hospital-wide of Performance/Process Improvement (P.I.) Methodology as a condition of employment

  • Offer suggestions and actively participates in departmental and/or hospital-wide Performance/Process Improvement

  • Enter, edit and complete exam documentation timely and accurately. Assure patient information and billing codes are marked correctly

  • Identify opportunities for cost savings. Report to supervisor any suggestions to increase productivity or quality of work

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include :

  • Completion of an AMA approved radiologic technologist training program

  • Meet requirements for registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist with ARRT certification and/or certification with the Nuclear Medicine Technologic Certification Board

  • CTNM, Certification by the State of California department of health services

  • CPR/RQI

  • Certification in starting IV's

  • Six (6) months experience during the last year, or a minimum of 2 years full-time experience with an absence from nuclear medicine of no more than 1 year

  • Ability to deal effectively with many people

  • Must be able to prioritize, organize, and coordinate care

  • Must be able to compute radioactive isotope dosages

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • One (1) year experience in nuclear medicine (not required if recent graduate from an approved technician training program)
