Providence is calling a Pulmonary Rehabilitation Specialist (Part-Time/Day Shift) to Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center in Torrance, CA.

We are seeking a Pulmonary Rehabilitation Specialist who will provide pulmonary rehabilitation therapy including writing exercise prescriptions, establishing and/or maintaining communications with physicians, patients and other personnel. These duties are performed in a manner which reflects the Sisters of Providence values, philosophy and mission.
In this position you will:
Demonstrate age specific patient care considerations for the population served:
Demonstrate application of knowledge, skills, and behaviors in the physical, motor/sensory, cognitive, psychosocial, patient and family education areas based on age specific care competency assessment tool.
Document patient sessions and collects outcome data:
Accurately/appropriately measures/collects/assesses patient data (objective and subjective) and outcomes (including satisfaction), in a timely fashion, using the EMR and written records when appropriate.
Case manages patients as experience allows:
Conduct patient initial assessments; develops and implements patient treatment plans, conducts follow-up care, and documents care for the adult and older adult rehab population.
Address all areas of the individual treatment plan (ITP) including: Exercise, Nutrition, Psychosocial, Oxygen, Body Weight, Medications, Tobacco, Diabetes.
Screen for appropriate treatment utilizing the program assigned outcome surveys, BODE, and 6min walk protocol.
Understanding of non-pharmacologic approaches for dyspnea i.e. breathing retraining, pursed lip breathing, cool air movement on face, and non-invasive ventilation.
Lead, monitor, and supervise individual and group therapeutic exercises for patients:
Individualize appropriate exercises for patients' age (adult and older adult), physical skill and functioning, degree of disease, and activity and treatment goals.
Modify exercises as necessary to assist in meeting patient treatment goals and co-morbidities.
Motivate individual patients and group, respecting individual differences within the group.
Provide individual and group patient education and materials as experience allows:
Use basic educational principles, theories of learning, methods of counseling, behavioral modification techniques, and a variety of teaching materials/methods to deliver information related to exercise and other rehab topics. Adjusts teaching methods to accommodate individual patient/client needs and limitations.
Maintain communication with the pulmonary team, Medical Director and Referring Physicians
Strive to improve the quality of patient care in the department:
Make at least Quarterly suggestions for improvement and develops and implements quality improvement initiatives;
Assist with the collection of quality improvement data.
Establish yearly goals that will enhance personal job performance.
Attend team conferences, in-services and conferences as appropriate.
Maintain confidentiality of records or medical center information at all times:
Confidential information & conversations are secured from general public access.
Maintain full knowledge of HIPAA regulations.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Associate's Degree in health/medical-related field of study.
Current CA state license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.
Two (2) years of hospital respiratory therapy responsibilities and/or special training in pulmonary rehab.
Able to read, write, comprehend, speak clear English.
General medical terminology.
Keyboarding 40 wpm.
Knowledge of Microsoft OFFICE.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Strong phone/email skills.
Strong ability to organize/prioritize multiple tasks while working with multiple patients simultaneously.
Work independently and relate to patients, staff, physicians, and other customers.
Measure and assess patient pulse, blood pressure.
Pulmonary medical terminology and medications.
Measure and assess oxygen saturation.
Determine supplemental oxygen needs for patients.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Bachelor's Degree in health/medical-related fields of study.
Course work/credit in Pulmonary Rehab related subjects.
Measure and assess cardiac rhythm, blood glucose.
Exercise leadership and programming for individual patients and groups.
Education programming and delivery for patients with cardiovascular and pulmonary disease.
