Providence is calling a Primary Care Registered Nurse ( PVMC ICF Nursing , Night Shift, 0.9 FTE) at Providence Valdez Medical Center in Valdez, Alaska. In this position you will:
Communicate closely with the resident and their family. Provide the Primary Nurse's name card to each family/resident to promote direct access to their contact person. Keep the resident/family informed of needs or changes.
Supervise overall resident care for a specific group of residents within scope of practice according to licensure. This includes performing a month end chart review, to includes but not limited to, MAR, TAR, Physician orders match from month end to the new month prior to end of month to ensure that resident needs are addressed, documentation is accurate and interventions are achieving the desired outcome. Match the Resident Daily Care Plan (RDCP) to the Care Plan for accuracy. This includes review of the progress notes for any plans that may not have been brought forward at the time of the writing of notes to the care plan and the RDCP.
Administer medications and treatments and provides direct licensed nursing care for a specific group of residents on a given shift.
Contact other members of the healthcare team as needed. Complete physician orders, insuring diagnosis, or condition with each order. Evaluate justification for each medication as medically necessary. Coordinate efforts to reduce medications. Refer to nursing/social worker intervention prior to gaining an order for a psychoactive medication. Consult supervisor for possible plan of care actions prior to requesting medication or calling the physician.
Report is given to the CNA’s and gains a return report from the CNA’s during the shift.
Collaborate with all other healthcare professionals as needed for service for appropriate residents. Observe and report significant findings to other healthcare professionals. Keep supervisor informed of significant events and changes in condition. Collect data during 7 day assessment MDS periods and provides information to supervisor.
Assess residents within the scope of practice according to licensure.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
Current Alaska Registered Nurse license.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
6 months of experience in a health care facility preferred (acute care, long term care, rehabilitation center)

About the Providence Valdez Medical Center
Providence Valdez Medical Center is a 21 bed Critical Access Hospital and we employ about 100 people (87 FTE’s). Of those 21 beds, 10 are licensed Long Term Care beds and 11 are Acute/Swing Beds. We have four physicians on our active medical staff who practice out of the Valdez Medical Clinic. Our average daily census is three-four inpatients and 20-30 outpatients. Our facility contains an emergency room, labor room, post-partum, nursery, cardiac room, orthopedic, and med/surg rooms. We also have an operating room for emergency surgeries and elective procedures, C-sections, hernias and appendectomies. All our beds are licensed for “swing bed” status of which 1-3 are usually occupied.
