Providence Health & Services Supervisor Dietary Services - Dietary *1.0/Day* in Valdez, Alaska

Providence is calling an Supervisor Dietary Services (Dietary, Day Shift, 1.0 FTE - 40 hours per week) to Providence Valdez Medical Center in Valdez, Alaska. In this position you will:

  • Develops implements and maintains written Dietary Services policies and procedures in compliance with state, federal and other regulatory guidelines.

  • Works closely with the contract dietitian to oversee and provide nutritional services for the facility. Responsible to ensure the menu for the patients and residents is developed according to customer needs and satisfaction to be in compliance with nutritional guidelines. Completes diet histories, and nutritional screens on residents. Responsible for maintaining high standards of quality food production and portion control.

  • Oversees the implementation and monitoring of the Dietary Services budget and provides fiscal management for department operations. Ensures an effective purchasing process is developed and maintained. Inspects, stores, and controls inventory. Develops an appropriate record keeping system. Ensures accurate records and documentation are maintained and completed.

  • Develops, oversees and completes the Quality Improvement plan to improve and be in compliance with the outcome measures of dietary services and patient and resident safety and satisfaction.

  • Schedules, develops, coaches, trains and supports Dietary Services staff to produce intended outcomes. Provides guidance for staff through clear and consistent communication. Participates in personnel functions including hiring, scheduling, evaluations, disciplinary actions and termination.

  • Provides hands on quality nutritional services to residents, patients, staff and other customers. Cleans and sanitizes dishes, pots, pans, utensils and the kitchen and dietary area. Maintains the Dietary Services department in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner.

  • Completes Competency Plan for assigned job and department.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • 2 years Experience in dietary or food services.

  • Dietetic Technician Registered (DTR) or Certified Dietary Manager (CDM) or ability to obtain within 18 months;.

  • Current certification in Food Safety and Sanitation through the State of Alaska.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Coursework/Training Specific vocational training in food or nutritional training. This training can be provided in a school, work, military, institutional or vocational environment.

  • 2 years Experience in a leadership capacity in a hospital, nursing care facility, or other related medical facility.

  • Experience in a health care setting.

Providence Valdez Medical Center is a 21 bed Critical Access Hospital and we employ about 100 people (87 FTE’s). Of those 21 beds, 10 are licensed Long Term Care beds and 11 are Acute/Swing Beds. We have four physicians on our active medical staff who practice out of the Valdez Medical Clinic. Our average daily census is three-four inpatients and 20-30 outpatients. Our facility contains an emergency room, labor room, post-partum, nursery, cardiac room, orthopedic, and med/surg rooms. We also have an operating room for emergency surgeries and elective procedures, C-sections, hernias and appendectomies. All our beds are licensed for “swing bed” status of which 1-3 are usually occupied.
