Providence is calling a Security Officer II (Security, Evening Shift, 0.875 FTE) to Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla, Washington. In this position you will:

  • Maintain the security and confidentiality of data and information used in performance of his/her daily duties conforming to hospital policy, laws and regulations as appropriate

  • Maintain positive working relationships and fosters a cooperative work environment

  • Friendly, positive customer relations required

  • Provide clear, concise, pertinent reports/information

  • Follow and maintains a working knowledge of current Security department policies and standard operating procedures such as access control, identification badging, loitering, smoking, parking, weapons and contraband

  • Routinely patrols around hospital and PMG building and exterior areas of campus to deter criminal activity, to detect unauthorized activity and to identify needs for assistance or safety concerns. Identifies, reports, and responds to suspicious activities

  • Monitor radio broadcasts and relays information to provide assistance as needed. Routinely conducts radio checks to determine operability of equipment

  • Accurately and timely completes reports including daily event logs, case incident reports, workplace violence or injury reports or other documents in accordance with Security Services or hospital policies

  • Investigate thefts, timecard fraud, or other complaints involving potential criminal misconduct, notifies appropriate law enforcement agencies and detains suspicious individuals when authorized, may be required to participate in subsequent court proceedings as required

  • Maintain accountability for valuables/property or forensic evidence

  • Utilize security camera surveillance system to detect inappropriate or illegal behaviors or other safety concerns

  • Download evidence per established criteria

  • Promptly reports any system malfunctions

  • Liaison with local law enforcement, Department of Corrections, fire department, emergency medical services, Corner, and other agencies as needed to ensure appropriate assistance and communications are provided. May serve as a liaison with law enforcement when investigating complex incidents as indicated. Coordinates information between PSMMC and law enforcement agencies

  • Provide prompt and effective response to Emergency Codes or duress alarm activations

  • Respond to requests to de-escalates or defuse difficult or aggressive individuals with verbal skills or as necessary to utilize show or force in restraining, detaining, or disarming individuals as necessary. Functions as team leader in Code Gray activations and directs team members. Assists with team management of high risk for violence patients

  • Escort unauthorized individuals off campus and obtains trespass orders as indicated

  • Attend training sessions and maintains competencies in the use of Security equipment and tools including, but not limited to, radios, handcuffs, OC/Pepper Gel, CS Gel, and restraint devices

  • Complete assigned inspections of safety equipment and promptly reports any concerns or hazards

  • Conduct safety searches of patients or visitors and belongings consistent with search and seizures policies

  • Maintain confidentiality of records and medical center information. Complies with HIPAA requirements

  • Assist department manager with security risk assessments as requested

  • Respond to critical incidents or disasters and participates in Hospital Incident Command as delegated

  • Report to work during emergencies and during inclement weather conditions as essential staff

  • Serve as a participant on committees as assigned where safety and security expertise is required

  • Carry out other assigned responsibilities within department including managing lost and found, mentoring and training new and existing security officers

  • Accept direction from Administrator on-call or Hospital Administration Supervisor in the absence of Security Department Manager or Supervisor

  • Perform other duties as assigned


  • Report for duty on time and maintains post assignments at times specified

  • Complete all tasks and duties accurately and timely within assigned shift. Demonstrates initiative to perform job duties autonomously

  • Attend mandatory and other education offerings per department and hospital requirements

  • Be expected to perform most job duties independently and in accordance with established departmental and hospital policies and procedures


Required qualifications for this position

  • Healthcare Security Officer internal training program including MOAB or CPI (management of aggressive behavior or crisis prevention course or equivalent), use of defensive tactics including OC/Pepper Gel, CS gel, handcuffing or other tools as approved by department manager as well as use of medical restraints. To be completed within one year from date of hire

  • Must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Associate's Degree

  • Three (3) years Law Enforcement/Security/Military or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Experience in a healthcare setting.
